  • question about a class ability

Hello everyone. As I await my internet problem to be resolved and await getting to play (my only fix is reading these message boards from work), I have already been trying to recruit friends to come join me here. I have a friend who has been playing D&D for years and had played NWN 1 before. He was curious about a character idea he had but was unsure if the NWN2 game would respond in a way the table top would. In 3.5 ray spells are touch attack and sneak attack can or is applied if having rogue class as well. In NWN2 or in Sundren, is that the case? Does it work like a sneak attack if that were the case? Any imput would be appreciated.

If you are asking if a spell such as "ray of frost" can be used by a wizard/rogue and then have sneak attack damage added to the damage of the spell then I would have to say no. I dont think it works that way.
Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
    Contagion to this world.

The answer is no and yes. In base NWN2 the answer is no. But there is work on the vault that allows this function. I am not sure if Sundren has this implemented or not. I'm sure a dev will chime in and tell us whether this feature resides here or not. Take Care.

The feature is not on Sundren because we are waiting for Atari to deliver it, as they have promised for some time. We try not to use "FIXES" off the vault for things Atari is supposed to fix.

        It follows this outlook:
1.) If we took a hak from the vault we would have to dissect it and modify it for Sundren based on our unique systems. We would have to familiarize ourselves witht the work the author did in case it interfered or overwrote anything else we have.
2.) When Atari finally releases the fix, we would have to strip out the authors work entirely and double check to make sure we didn't leave anything in, lest it interefer with Atari's fix.
3.) Everytime Atari releases a patch that does not include the fix the author has to go back and update his work (if you look at vault histories you'll see what I mean) meaning we have to go back and reimplement his work all over checking for his changes and how they effect our systems.
4.) All this time and effort put into this, in the end, would be wasted time having accomplished nothing except speeding up the fix, for something that isn't game breaking. (your game doesn't crash because of it). This is time we could be applying to making custom content of our own, quests, items, creatures, etc.

To get this and many many other features that are missing, implemented, you should go to the Atari/Obsidian forums and beg/threaten/bribe them to do it.

I should add that I know many many of the ray spells have the code in for critical hits, just not sneak attacks.

I was meaning that that is the way it is done in 3.5 edition rules and that is what NWN2 ruleset is based on. But I know they have to rearrange and change some things to transfer it to a computer game. He asked me but I have just started 2 myself so that is what I was meaning in asking. I appreciate the help so far. Thanks.

Hey thanks. That is very helpful. Disheartening for him, but helpful nonetheless.

The spell Wracking Touch allows sneak attack damage, but sadly it is not a ray.

I know we discussd that particular spell before. It doesn't so much as allow you to sneak attack someone as it adds sneak attack damge to your damage total REGARDLESS of whether you could sneak attack or not. Its unique and the functions used for it are no where near to what is needed for TRUE Sneak Attack conditions on ray spells.

Yeah, and it is kinda weak really, though it is useful vs highly armored buggers.
