True though I doubt I will see a pure class monster neither or one that is level 15-20 in a class to affect the max on dispell. So far been seeing goblins taunt with grand total dc of 8. So basically you need to roll 1's to fail.

Seeing its an AI script that affects all critters its a matter of how many casters you run into, and how many dispells they have. So far I only can think of 4 areas with casters to even worry about.

Most groups have maybe 1 caster in it, so just do like I do. Kill the caster first.

    *edit*

I wonder if silence is a spell that can be put into wands. I could see that being a very lucrative business. *EVIL GRIN*

The dispell mechanics basically just mean that if you need potions to stand your own, you're going to have to bring three times as many of them to keep going, and spend a lot of time drinking them in combat.

That's only for cases where you don't have enough 'buff classes' to to enhance the whole party, though. Or if the buffs are cast at half caster level, such as by rangers and paladins. It's a hindrance, but nonetheless it's logical that an enemy spellcaster would attempt to use dispel magic. And potions aren't too expensive, so it's just something to learn to live with.

Yet, as Maevan jestingly implied, I don't hope the 'monster power' will reach a point somewhere that without all the perfect stats on your character, the risk you take when seeing 'high end content' is so high that it's simply not worth going there at all. Minmaxing is what I'd do on an Arena server back when they were popular in NWN1, or in WoW. But Sundren is neither, and I don't like to powerbuild when I want to RP..

So far I haven't run into any dispel using monsters, but I'm sure I'll be surprised when I do.

Pff potions once I get enough gold will seek to carry wands. I know it will be alot more harsh but 1 lb for 10 potions vs 1 lb for 50 castings.

As for perfect stats its more fun to be disfunctional in some parts. Maybe why I like having craptastic strength makes it a different game for me.

Did not think of potions, makes alot of sense. *shrugs* Should make things more intresting not deadly less you try to solo an area meant for Groups.

i think I may cry, someone said mages are weak sauce...I have 3 words for you. Sleep and Invisibility. Those two spells will get you to level 5 ON THEIR OWN. At level 5 you get the next lvl of SLEEP, which makes ogres konk out as if they just out drank a city of dwarves. Every thing but bosses and pcs are capable of being coup de gras'd, so have at it you nubs!

You hit the nail on the head there. Don't forget Summon creature too. Once you put those creatures down for nappy time, then use your summons to do the dirty work while you stay invisible.

We have no intention to cater to people who are frustrated that they can't solo, this is an RP server. I even make a point of killing most people when I catch them grinding solo just out of principal, unless there are only a few people online.
it is exactly those time's when no one is around that i would like to make mischief and such on my own, IC, but if i cant even sneak past goblins....

anyway, that's not the point. the point is this, discouraging poor role playing by putting in place things that should not exist ubergoblin-locks, ridiculously hard mobs and travel restrictions in fact feels limiting to good RP. i dont want to "grind" solo... i dont even like grinding in a group. i want to be able to explore and adventure.

urithrand, i fear i have you on the defensive. my comments are intended as constructive critisizm only. my friend and i have been searching around for a while and sundren is by far the best. that's why we came here.

Ogre Shamans, which is funny since they dispel their own summoned wolves half the time.

Edit: Also on the subject of dispelling enemies, try sneaking through the Slitherscale caves these days. some of them seem to have supernatural AoE dispels, as my rogue found out the hard way, losing his invis repeatedly. Carrying 2 dead bodies and sneaking makes for uber slow over-encumbered movement

I've done my share of servers, NWN1 and 2 and Sundren so far as I have seen is very well balanced. You can play just about whatever you like and always find some way of progressing.

The thing that screws most places over is when players moan that something is too hard or two easy and the server gets altered in such a way that everyone starts trying to play a certain build just to survive and get the best advantage. There is a downward spiral of powerbuilding vs DM quest, content and rule nerfing. Then the DM reaction is to mount a holy crusade against the players, stripping away content and before you know it, it's just another one of those beautiful looking servers with a 0/60 player count on gamespy.

This has been the single greatest downfall of the NWN community since ever.

Sundren is great, you can log in with a new PC, find static content right away, get some gear, explore some grounds, meet some people, be DMed, party up, quest your brains out or sit around for a whole evening just chatting with people ICly about absolutely nothing and still gain trickle XP for your RP.

Basically there is a lot of freedom here whatever you play. It only seems unsatisfying if you are trying to do everything available at 100mph because you feel others are doing something you arn't and you are missing out.

This isn't a do everything server. It's a do what you feel like when you feel like doing it. You'll still get the progression and even when you don't there is so much fun still to be had.

My vote is that this is the most satisfying server I have ever played on and that is really saying something cos i have played on a couple of gooduns before this.

I think the Slitherscale Snipers were given Scent or permanent See Invisible or something, but they've already had that long before SoZ. I found that out when my old tactic of quaff a potion, sneak away and use healing kits no longer worked there. But with dispelling, they also make you visible to all the other lizards. Ouch.
