  • Question - Goblin Chief

I love the quests you have scattered about Sundren and have done many of them. I have also RPd with some great people.

However, I wanted to discuss one issue. I have tried to complete the goblin chief quest three times on three seperate days now and have not been able to complete it because of a certain locked door.

I understand that you want rogues and such to have some utility; however, I have tried to party with people to get this done, I have waited in the camp for someone to maybe come by that I could RP with and join with that may be able to unlock the door, and I actually stood in front of the cave for over 45 minutes RPing with another lock pick challenged character waiting to see if someone else would show up, but no luck.

I still have not been able to complete this quest. I know people will say, "hey, just take some lockpick." Well, I am playing an Elven Priest of Lathander and lockpick isn't part of his RP and would basically be ridiculous to have, IMO.

Anyway, just something to think about.

I think its great that this encourages partying up. My rogue has helped a few people to get through the caves now and its great to have a need for rogues. So you haven't found anyone to open the door for you, keep trying.

Why should our characters be able to complete every quest solo?

I was with another person each time I tried this quest. Maybe nobody goes to Shaharan hills anymore or not as frequently.

So, it was not a solo issue.

Maybe I have to go to exigo campfire and ask for help?

The goblin chief is at the end of the caves. I wasn't aware you had to unlock anything to get to him?

You do.. The door that leads to the second levels of the Spittlefist Caves is now locked, so now only a rogue can get in.

This doesn't seem like a big issue. There are some opportunities in life that we just can't accomplish unless resources are in place. That's the same here.

Keep looking for a rogue, but it's OK if you don't finish every quest available to you. Such is life, and such is the game

I locked the door. Saulus and I discussed it and decided to go forward with it.

What follows is a story and not an explanation:
I remember manually locking it one night before the permanent change because I saw a couple of Frenzied Berserkers (theres a bunch of you) independently just scorching thru the dungeon, one right after another. The moment I locked it, the farming stoppped and they went and found people to RP with.

Ah right. May have to try to get on every once in a while and keep up to date with all the new things then.

AHAHAH! Yes! Honestly I would be all for raising the DC of that door so that it almost requires a rogue to pick it, something like 24 so someone can't just put a single point into LP and blaze through the dungeon.

The thing I find funny about this is that I've spent the last 3 days or so prowling those caves with my rogue (due to not being able to easily find people to go to mossclaw meet with) and have been sending out tells to all the groups I see without rogues offering to help by let's say...'leaving the door propped open', I mean what rogue wants to risk re-picking a lock after he's already done it once?

You must have just been on at fairly unlucky times to not encounter me. I also know that there are quite a few rogue types out there on our server (I know I had a fun little RP event with one last night, you know who you are ). Whether or not they have LP skill I don't know, I know my character's LP skill is fairly high though, as well as his other rogueish qualities.

I think this was a great change though, because up until now rogues were fairly unnecessary. It was like, we don't need one, but I guess someone could open the chests for a bit of extra loot, although the good stuff is gonna drop off the bosses anyways. Or... he 'could' disarm it, or we could just walk through it and use a heal kit *shrug*. Now it's great because rogues are almost a necessity for anyone who wants to go in there and really get anything done. Kind of like how certain other areas almost require you to have a good fighter or a good healer, now theres a place where you need a decent rogue. I say good decision DM team, and please give us a few more locked doors.

I think the locks are great for RP but I do understand the frustration of not being able to complete the quest and/or not being able to find someone else online.
My fighter has on occasion "hired" other PC's for the purposes of completing the quests.

Actually, that is the best, and the first, way someone got my character to help them. Since he's pretty greedy (as many rogues probably are). He's easy to pay off to get 'something' done. *shrugs*

Edit: Also, I can also see how this could be annoying, most of my characters are not rogues, but at the same time I think it really helps and adds another element to the dungeons and role play. I've had a lot of fun rogue mischief in those caves since this change was made that would have not been quite the same without it.

I've already ran into this locked door myself. Fortunately, we were able to take a 'goblin scout' prisoner outside the cave (he was spyin' on us!). After that, I threatened to gut him and feed him to a boar we had in our group unless he opened the door for us. Now that was fun.

The last time I tried this quest, last night, an individual came out of the cave entrance. We talked to him, asked him if he had seen the chief, he said yes, then turned to go. We did try to hire him to help us, but he said he was in a hurry and rushed off.

So, I have tried many things to complete this quest. I am in no way upset and think it is cool to have things that only rogues can do, I was just a bit frustrated in not being able to finish what seems like a cool quest and wondering where everyone was? There were almost 20 people online and nobody in Shaharan

I also tried to get some DM help, either with some rp to get it open or something, but no reply. I am sure the DM was vey busy at the time.

I just wanted you guys to know that I have tried a number of options.

You stupid Rogue-types. I had to pay one of you 5000 to unlock a door for me. Outrageous.

I am anti-locked doors, because Rogues are all inherently jerks.
