  • Why Necromancers?

This post is by no means a shot at anyone who created a Necromancer (heck, I did!), but I was wondering if anyone else thought that it seems there are an unusually large number of them here, and if so, why is that?

I didn't read any of the char descriptions in the forum before I made mine, which was on the first day. I thought, oh that could be a fairly unique char and fun for me, and then I read the forum posts and it seemed like there were a bunch of them. I guess always had a fondness for it as a wizard specialization. There is something cool about it to me and maybe its a little easier to incorporate into RP situations.
I can think of one powerbuilding reason why, but I'm not accusing people of using that reason. I'm really just curious if anyone noticed that and why it might be. Maybe I just notice them because I made one.

I think necromancers are very cool. It was the character I wanted to play as well. However, I think I will play a different one if there are already a lot.

Perhaps its because of their popularity in Diablo 2. Or the mystique behind the villain Gandalf destroyed in the hobbit. Who knows? I don't typically play an arcane necromancer, I usually stick to an evil priest of some sort, but I was actually going to experiment with an arcane sorcerer, turned pale master, lawful evil.

Guess I will go back to the drawing board. Or perhaps a lot of necromancers might be a good idea given all the pally types trying to eradicate us.

The Dark Advent is a faction in Sundren which is comprised of cryptic necromancers. Eventually it will be our hope to allow players to join this faction.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

A faction for evil characters would certainly be nice especially for the dark arts. After reading the bit on PvP characters, just because they might be evil I got kind of nervous.

Since my lore of faerun is abysmal at best, what is the opinion of Necromancers in the realms and is the practice of necromancy legal in Sundren?

Nevertheless, a faction devoted to Necromancy certainly does sound encouraging.

I think the reason why ppl are making Necromancers, is really the fact that there is no good Necro build in NWN2.
In PnP its easy, but your quit limited in here. I think its just everyone's way of trying to make it work... besides, I love dead things...heheh. My fav. book is "Libris Mortis".

Can't wait for that. Undead are my favorite thats why I play a necromancer. Palemaster is one of the best classes to RP in my opinion.

Most people, NPCs and PCs, treat necro's with fear/distrust/distaste, especially certain races. That people view the necro faction here with distrust is part of the lore of the server it seems from reading the description of the faction.
PC - Corwin Eska'las (Sun Elf pursuing the dream of becoming a Bladesinger)

Alt PC - Brevin Smoothands (meticulously groomed half orc bard swashbuckler... sort of... sings great, less fighting)

Necro's are just a cool concept.. but also a dangerous one, don't look odd when you find yourself staked to a gate because you admitted publicly to meddle with the death to find more power.
Fret and fear, for Europe is near.

Necromancers can be roleplayed to highly varied levels. They're always dark and sinister and stray from the usual evil rogue type character. I've only roleplayed a necromance once. Although one of my characters become a servant to a necromancer, i prefer to play the wierdest or most interesting characters i can think of.
