  • Metagaming and Hano

I'd like to say that while in Sundren I've used the search for players feature quite a lot when searching for RP, however, there is a big downside to that. One of them is one I wish to address to clear some things up.. I've stumbled across three 'secret' meetings so far by means of using this tool.

I love RPing in different enviroments so when I find a group of people in some odd location, I head there.. However I'd like everyone to know that if the meeting is 'secret' you can safely assume that Hano is there for his own reasons and is COMPLETELY oblivious, ignoring faces and words while looking for [x] or doing [x]. If you wish to interact with him, I'd love it! Unless otherwise suggested though, I'll remain oblivious to keep myself ruining RP (meaning that anything said or done when I walk in or about is completely unknown to Hano).

So all I ask is that you look at me as someone looking for RP, not someone using the search tool to uncover any plot or storyline. Thank you!

I was one of the persons who you stumbled in to having a little meeting and i assure you that I took no offense. A good reminder is to disable the find tool so you don't show up in searches. I usually do so but this time the server had a reboot and I forgot to disable it again.

I only remember sometimes to get people to turn off searchable when stuff like that's happening (ie; secret meetings, etc). Players should endeavour to remember to toggle searchable off under such circumstances, and I should remember to remind them (I have no doubt that the rest of your friendly local DM team are better about it than I).

*makes mental note to tell people to toggle off searchable during events*

Most people probably do this.. a good rule of thumb I use is "would my character go here without knowing there were other players in this particular area?"

For instance, if your character likes to get boozed, he may go to an inn. If he prefers the outdoors he's more likely to go out into the forest alone. General meeting places such as the Exigo are never off-limits, but going to the Necropolis all by yourself raises some question marks (*cough* Hano )

I dislike standing around doing nothing when everyone else is out adventuring instead of RPing. When I'm bored of waiting for people to finish grinding, I give up and try to get in on the fun! It may not be legit, and considered metagaming, but there's no other way to get 'involved'. That's why I'm so quick to jump to non-hostile areas (no NPCs to kill) when there's people there. Hope to strike up some RP.

The only time a lot of people gather together is when a DM is on so they can have an event.. This is even hit-or-miss because a DM will get on and notice ten people each in their own zone doing their own thing and it's not very fun to sport an event for only one or two people.

If I wanted to be completely legit Hano would spend all of his time at the Temple or patroling Sundren's streets when he's not adventuring. That's no fun indeed. I want to make use of this tool given to us so I can join in on adventures or RP at whim! However.. I don't want to end up spoiling it in the process of joining it.

Edit: There was only one time for me entering the Necropolis not actively seeking out RP - It's when we had someone stalking our party (( Unknown to us )) in the Necropolis and ended up getting knocked unconsious in the process. We found her body and I healed her back up - She responded by making a break for it and running out of sight. She ended up crashing unknown to me. I thought she made it out safe, because as Hano, I would have escorted her out safely. When she logged back in and whispered me, 'Sorry, I crashed' I ran back into the Necropolis to follow up on ends that were left loose due to a crash. (( Intended on finishing my escorting her out of there, or worst case taking her corpse to the Temple ))

Use the toggle anonymous, that's why we put it there.

I agree with Hano, besides, there one more tool people can use to avoid things like this

                use tells

I am always looking for a chance to RP around either

There are so many new people on, I use the find tool all the time to at least find a group of people and then see what is going on at the location. If its an odd location, I don't go there because something that doesn't have anything to do with my character is probably happening and its none of my business. I only use Tells to people I already know usually.

I also use the find tool on those occasions when I just want to kill something or earn a few stags. I want to make sure I don't mess up anyone elses group or barge into an area they are already in, so I use that tool to find empty areas sometimes.

I find the tool very helpful.

I love the tool - especially since I've been at the level cap for months, the tool is the easiest way to find something going on.

That said, I also want to echo Lollercide's remorse at interrupting any secret meetings.

I use this tool as well, but temper it with "would my character normally go there?"

For example: if there are a lot of people in the temple, would Mittens go there? probably not. This, and knowing who's online, would also twig me to think "ah, probably a meeting, with no reason for me to be there" so I won't go. I also don't like barging in on someone elses event. Sometimes it just gets cumbersome with five new people showing up just to be a part of it, to much traffic for me =)

Sundance: "Well it's to late now."

                      Toons:
                      Mittens Whitepaw (Feral Druid),
                      Rose Thimblefoot (Simple Seamstress),
                      Melody Mourningsoul (Cursed Bard)
Katalina Zephyr (Guardian of the Grave)

I rarely use find players any more, unless i'm logged on a Nulinus. When I play as Lauan or something, I just walk around oblivious, or start doing something random, like playing in the crossroads.

I have never used the Search for Player's option, I just go about to different locations. Also, you have something secret to say, pay close attention and whisper. Those who get over heard talking aloud shouldn't really be too pissed at anybody but themselves.
