I have an idea to play a character from the future, who has magically been transported to Sundren. Obviously, most people would say he is crazy, and eventually he will resolve himself to staying in Sundren once he finds there is no way home.

It would be a lot like the old D&D cartoon with those wacky kids thrust into the D&D world. What do you all think of this concept? Would it break immersion too much? I don't plan on being too obvious about it, but it will become clear to many when he doesn't know much of anything about the land, culture, etc.

Um, I think I may pee my pants in laughter. Do it!
    Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

    [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.

I think it might depend, on a few things (either way I don't mind personally) if he is from the 'future' but talks about things like the new cotton gin and flintlock pistols, that could be pretty funny. If he is from our time and talking about LCD's and the latest alternative fuel *does a wishy washy hand motion* that might depend. If he is from way in the future (even to us) like the year 4127ax from the zeta delta gamma quadrant of the marshmallow galaxy... I could also see that being pretty funny lol. Just my opinion, either way I say run with it.

I'm thinkin he would be a sorcerer, like somehow he has absorbed the magic of the world where he has landed. It would also make him quite fragile and therefor encourage him to play the scared as hell tourist.

Have any of you ever played Nethack? I could even go further and define all his spells by using modern devices as an excuse. Blindness would be from his flash camera. Magic Missile could be a pistol.

Heck, I might make him a clueless bard! How backward would that be? He would be a likable guy, and an asset to the party but he would no absolutely nothing about monsters or magic or factions or anything.

I'm thinking he would be from the early 60s actually, perhaps a musician type. He would know better than to tell anyone where he is from. A big scary bad guy is looking for him, so he has to keep it a secret.

I haven't seen that show, but I hear good things about it. I do know the Bowie song though! No, I will not base my character on Ziggy Stardust.

A more likely comparison would be Maynard G Krebs.

Hm... rusted has so much authority as a forum troll. Just not as much as me. Any 'crazy' character concpets can be posted up in the help forum - but please, no homosexual vampires with uber skills.

Oh, just saw Sammael say 'Life on Mars' - loved it, 'Ashes to Ashes' was good sequel but a bit slow... and now im going off topic..

I don't know how much I like this idea. I'm not really opposed to it, but... its just... problematic. I refuse to go into detail though. Bite me.

OMG. You're OLD! (I won the game four times. I'm ancient)

As for the character idea - my first impulse was to say maybe you'd better not.

Not because I think you'd do poorly... more concerned that it might start a trend and we'd have tons of extradimensional time travelers at some point.... I'm sure it could be funny if played well though.

What is we just had a rule that only I get to play one?

I did post this question to get DM's opinion for fear this concept would throw a big monkey wrench into the scene.

Yeah, I am old school that way. I have only beaten the game 3 times, so you got me there.

                            Ooh, harsh on Rusted. :P.

Meh, I dono. Future chars can be sort of troublesome to people, and new players that come in will be like "lulwut fail" and yeah...
