What happens when somebody wins who is not interested in creating such a character?

They are not obligated to create a new character, or accept any reward.

Say we win and don't want our prizes right away. How long can we delay getting an item and how long do we retain that eligibility for a special race?

Eligibility for closed races lasts for 1 year from the date you won. Custom items or XP rewards need to be redeemed the next month after winning.

Well, i didn't expect you to force them . But that means if the winner doesn't want his price then the price is lost even though the one on the second, third,... place would love to create such a character? Quite a few players have just one character and so i'd expect this to be a quite common situation. Or at least people should be able to say that they are not interested in participating in this poll at all if they know they won't be interested in the price

Drow: 1
Svirfneblin: 5
Aasimar: CLOSED
Tiefling: 3
Air Genasi: 2
Water Genasi: 2
Fire Genasi: CLOSED
Half Drow: 2

Just trying to clarify something, are some of these races available right now or do you have to win the contest?

I'm also curious as to why the Fire Genasi is closed while the others Genasi's are open... in addition to the Drow. Whats the reasoning?

I've seen a couple of new fire gensai's around, so it may be that they've filled up that category to its limit

I'm all about RP'ing and I support trying this out, but I do have some concerns:
1. Only 24 people per year will be able to make a character in a restricted class. Considering turnover and the fact that not everyone who wins will create a character, does this mean there will be even fewer unique races out there? Considering I've never seen one in my 3 weeks of play time anyway
2. I worry that not all RPers will be considered equally - the more quiet or awkward characters won't be noticed as much as the loud, bouncy charasmatic ones. Additionally, if you don't play at peak hours (or aren't at the level that can play with folks who are on, etc.), you won't get the votes that others do.
Just a couple logistical concerns, I suppose. I look forward to seeing how this works out.

Oh damn.. The only reason I'd want to get a closed class is to make an Aasimar Paladin. (Hano was intended to be a testing grounds of how to play/RP a Paladin) Shoo with your lack of Aasimar.

Yashia was intended to be a testing grounds of the server itself, but due to race restrictions I didn't make her an Aasimar even though I meant for her to be one

also as was mentioned before about the genasi, how is it only air, fire and water are on the list? does that mean earth is an open race?
if so why is earth an open race to begin with if fire, air and water are closed/kept for compition?
shouldnt they all be the same?

Correct. We are no longer accepting applications for ECL Races unless you have won the contest.

We do the best we can for the majority of the players. We apologize in advance for a few people feeling shafted, but there is absolutely nothing we can do to ever make things "FAIR" for all people.

unique races

and thats what we're shooting for here. A ECL race will be a rare oddity.
