  • What is Exotic?

It is mentioned in the rules that you need special permission to play something exotic, like a prince or diplomat. I have been a big fan of Al-Qadim for years, and was wandering, is it considered too exotic to play a character not from Faerun, say from Zakhara, Kara-Tur, or even Mazteca?

You better have a hell of a story as to how you got to Sundren. Run it by the DM's, I'd say.

I would approve it if you have a really good back story, keep in mind that Sundren is a rather small city and the people that end up in it are usually kind of crazy or criminals. Sundren has alot of characters that are religious fanatics and outcasts from the norm.

I have a character from Chult. She has a checkered past, and ran off to Sundren to lay low.

My Halfling monk Hakafu is from Kara-tur though he and his sister were rescued from a raid that killed the rest of thier village and were subsequently raised on an estate several miles outside Waterdeep which belonged to thier rescuer, Verity Bloodfeather.

They have halflings in Kara-tur? 0_o I've never really been sure what races they have in other continents.

Canabilistic halflings from chult are fun. They have whole tribes of the little ankle biters out there. They run around in loin cloths and eat anything they can kill worshipping Ubato.

Officially, there are no halflings from Kara-Tur (but as always, DM's have the final say). Zakhara has all the normal races, but racial animosity (such as between Orcs and Dwarves) is unheard of.

I have always been fond of a good story. Second Edition was limited, no dwarven wizards, no elven bards, and the like. Third Edition fixed most of that (though my gaming group had been bypassing such rules through role play).

                  Thanks for all the imput.

You have my permission to make a character that regularly gorges his/herself on delicious cupcakes, made by a Kangleton chained to a broken computer, and within reach of an oven. If you make anything else, you will be perma-jailed, kthx.
