  • Coup de Grace

How does this work? If I send my enemies to sleep, what determines if I will coup de grace or not.

    Who's the resident expert then.

You have to hit them with a melee weapon from my experience. If you shoot them or spell them they wake up.

Yup, but is still doesn't work on things that are too high CR it seems. Confirmation?

I think they may have to be asleep for at least one round before you can cdg them. But don't quote me on this.

Ah interesting...that could be it. Hm, it makes sleep pretty darn powerful if so though.

You could probably search for this in the NWN2 wiki, which a lot of people are fond of, but I've never used.

Its been a while and I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but if I remember right you can only coup de grace a creature with less then 4 (5?) HD, when they are asleep or paralyzed.

sharringtonm is correct, you can only coup de grace creatures with up to 4HD, if they are paralyzed or asleep. One thing to remember is any creature with immunity to critical hits cannot be coup de graced I.E. undead, constructs etc.

Well, these creatures can't be paralysed or sleeped anyway. I guess there may be some creature that is only immune to critical hit and not paralysis/sleep.

I don't understand your last post. What creatures are you talking about, could you elaborate more as to what your trying to say?

Some undead can be paralyzed and are immune to critical hits. Other types of monsters that would be immune to critical hits but able to be paralyzed would include certain oozes, jellies, slime etc. Mycanoids, Treants, other plant based creatures etc. And certain elementals are immune to critical hits but can be held.

                          They shouldn't.
If you find anything that Gairun just listed that can be paralyzed, please report it as a bug. In NWN2, all of the above are immune to mind effects and hence are immune to paralysis.

In case anyone is wondering, turn undead, and all the different versions of it, is NOT paralysis, even though it does the same thing. Think of it more like... a stun effect.

There are a few spells out there in PNP that will inflict a form of paralysis on the above creatures, Hold Undead coming to mind, thankfully they are not in NWN2.

I wasn't really referring strictly to NWN2 but to the rules concerning Coup De Grace in general. Druids can get hold plant spells etc. and stuff. And I really doubt we have any Mycanoids or Shambling mounds in Sundren anyways :P What I was saying is just because something is immune to a critical != immune to paralysis/stun/sleep.

EDIT: Yes I'm referring to Pen and Paper spells/feats/monsters etc. In NWN2 all you have to worry about with coup de grace is HD amount, as there aren't any monsters you'll face that are immune to crit but can be paralyzed/stun/slept.

You've clearly never been roaming around Veridale when Karthus was hyper.
