I am concerned about the way wizards are encouraged to us long term buff strategies by the current system. I wanted to make a wizard that is a real spellslinger, but that strategy would only last a short while. The eldritch night builds seem to fair better.

Perhaps the evoker blaster type wizard must hold back and be selective about their spells?

Yeah, Orrick was a pretty big spell slinger until he hit 6, now that he's 6, he's got to worry about only being able to rest every 10 minutes, and his buffs dieing before that since most of them would leave him with like 4 minutes of unbuffed. So now he keeps 2 of each of his protection spells, which cuts down like 3 or 4 attack spells, not to mention he only gets like 8 offensive spells after his buffs per 10 minutes, he feels more like a... buff mage then crossbow, than a spell slinging illusionist.

The worst problem about Blackguards are their summons, as those will readily blow their cover, ooc'ly at least, and there's only a very small gap from knowing it ooc'ly to deciding to have figured it out IC'ly, for some at least.
If I played a Blackguard and someone decided to "guess" my nature from my ability or spell list I'd be calling on the DMs in a flash, cause that's metagaming of the worst kind

          Now thats a good point.
Hopefully there will be some places in the near future where evil characters may reside in "peace". Or perhaps a Discuise system would be in place. (Roll a bluff to change or get rid of over head name semi- perminently)...... hmmm *ponders and looks to the web to research more on this idea*

Though, that isn't quite what I had in plan though... I was going to let him just sit in the forest of night forever- untill someone rezzed him(after his body was destroyed) and brought him to trial in real style- to be perma'd. XD

In all honesty though, the problem with the blackguard in NWN2 really is simply that they really *aren't that good*. They will get straight out beat to death by a paladin/cleric/fighter/ect ect... also all their abilities are straight out evil. The only thing that makes them useful is simply their summon skills in NWN2; since they lack a decent spell list... and either summon will get said person lynched.

In their defense, this is a role playing server... but a person would more likely be better off trying to roll an eldritch knight and go that route... or go with something like a Monk for something evil since they don't need the various buffing powers.

The one thing I'm seeing to much is Wizards... well, not the normal sort of wizard. The ones who simply buff themselves to obscene levels and go around tanking monsters...

Though they where culled somewhere after said character was perma'd. With the Mage Armor nerf- some of the abusability was changed.

Way back when, I remember Lady Isiovien... she had buffed 40+ AC in very little armor IIRC. Prettymuch slaughtered whoever messed with her drowness.

Though, again- on the perma'd character I managed to best her... Used like 10 barkskin potions, several dozen healing potions... and everything left in my inventory....

I *might* try another blackguard some day...

Ahh. Isovien, run! Crazy EKs. Yeah. blackguards are okay, the summons are amazing but everyones gonna go after you if you summon it. Hey, atleast you aren't as useless as Palemasters. >_>. The only thing they have to look forward to is immunity to crits :P.

Also, earlier on there was something about not enough tieflings, well, thats how its supposed to be. Tieflings are rare, yeah? Same with warlocks.

As far as I can tell, there are no active ECL races except for maybe 2 Earth Genasi's and the odd Assimar.

Ah, but you forget NPCs. DMs can still use them.

I do not think that the stats on the server is accurate either, it is said to have a lot of things on there, but have not seen many. I mostly see mages, rogues or fighters. I do not care much for Warlocks (partially since I never really tried them and do not really understand how they work).
In truth, I do not see a lot of races that are on the restricted list. I would SO love to make a drow cleric devoted to Loth just to come in and cause some havoc, but even my thief I just remade since I do not really see much in the way of evil deeds and such. I have actually wished to be out hunting with my ranger or something and be ambushed by a group of evil characters! I think that is something that is somewhat lacking now. You might be evil, but it is kind of a "Hush Hush" sort of thing. Which in a way is fine, but then on the other side, that is when you put your mask on, pull your cloak hood up and cause some havoc. Of course, in the end evil usually begets evil, but still, would like to see a bit more evilness going on!

The races bit of the page is actually wrong. Many people enter the server with an unapproved restricted race because either 1. They don't know it needs approval or 2. they're hoping a DM will let them in. Anyway, some of these people never get permission but the page still counts it because they entered "LOADING".

Aye, there is that as well. I made a toon thinking because it was "Open" that it did not need approval, thought that was just for the "Closed" races. Of course, that was mostly just from not reading it correctly. Think that also needs be taken into consideration (even while approving restricted races, even closed ones).

I agree with the evil thing... there is not enough 'stupid evil' as people call it
