  • about parties

I have seen many new pleyers who don't give a chance to party up. I guess some players think they will get less xp when they party up.

That is being frustrating and annoying, you try to interact with someone and the guy just runs off.

I have seen DMs shouting: "3 or more players in a party gets 30% more xp than usual", still, guess there are many people who don't know about it.

It's also important to remember those players to party up, otherwise they will never run into an event.

Yeah, I think it must be that some people think they'll get less xp even if the others are of the same/lower level.

    So party up!

Well now that the death system is harsher. I hope to see an increase in party play when characters are adventuring. I am sure that after they lose their first or second signus they will consider things more seriously.
      Currently playing:

Thalissa spellsword of Red Knight: "Flank, Flank!!"

Talia Callahan: "What te fuck are ye lookin at!!?" Spits

Caldur the Grey Doomguide to Kelemvor: "The trouble with youth is that you think you have time."

This is very true. I'm currently actively running events for low level characters, but if people are travelling alone or running everywhere then it won't happen

If someone is like five levels above you, you aren't going to get experience, if they are like three or less, you should still get experience I believe.

As to parties, I honestly never have the problem unless no one is online. Maybe it's just how I play my different characters, I don't know.

Oh, please, come on during my time. All I get is the mean hordes of super zombies and vampires that one-hit me.

Well, that was before the semi-permanent death system.

Well, she was an "overpowering" rating, so I don't know if that is 5 or more levels or not....

But in the end I just figured it was fun to rp with a bunch of folks, and besides, gold wasn't rationed so readily as exp. =P

Right... the xp system is one of the few things about Sundren mechanics that GBX has told us about.

Basically, experience is figured by the highest level in your party. Why? So people don't power level each other (Trust me, people try to). If you have 3 or more people in your party, you gain 30% more experience a kill. So if a level 10 is in the party with level 7's, you get experience as if the party was level 10.

Now, if you have people 5 levels less than the highest member, it adds 2 levels per level 5 or more apart. So level 4 with a level 10 is a level 14 party for experience gain (Might change that to 8 levels). Then if you have over 5 people, it adds 2 levels for person over 5 (6 people makes a level 10 party, level 12). This is so people don't get in groups of 10 and just walk all over dungeons and expect uber experience. This might be modified too.

Now, the experience gained takes your level compared to the CR of the monster and rewards as follows.

                  Your Level - CR =
                  -4 or less: 0xp
                  -3 = 4
                  -2 = 8
                  -1 = 12
                  0 = 20xp
                  1 = 36xp
                  ...
                  5 or more = 100xp or something.
Also, if the lowest member is more than 7 levels different from the highest level, the CR of the party is increased by 1 per difference above 7 levels, as of December or so.

And if you have more than 5 party members, your party's CR is increased by 2 for every extra member. (I think)

I think the following is true:

                    Challenging: Your CR.
Very Difficult: 1-2 levels above your CR
Overpowering: 3-4 levels above your CR
                    Impossible: 5+ above your CR

So when you party, as long as someone doesn't see "Impossible", or you don't see "Easy" and "Overpowering" (6-8 level gap possibility), you should be good.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Janus is correct, there can be no excuse! Well, there can be plenty actually, but most are pretty bad

Play your character how you want to, party or no party. Either way it still costs 10 diamonds to raise you after you die :P.

As long as people are grouping with Talassans and keep donating gold to the church in fear of getting struck down by lightning, there is no excuse.

Hear that: Talos approves of grouping for the greater destruction of things.
