  • Hi, some questions

    Hello,
I am playing on Sundren now for a few days and I really enjoy it. While playing some questions came up:

    1) Timezone? Where are most DMs / players from? I am from europe and if most DMs are from the US / Canada, I will miss any quests. If most players are from US / Canda, I wont have many players to play with..

    2) Alignment-changes. Right now I play a mercenary who could easily be swayed to a good or evil alignment. If someone manages to do this, will a DM adjust my chars alignment to reflect the change?

    3) Spell changes. I saw the posting with the mage armor (and so on) changes already. Are those armor spells the only spells changed on Sundren and is that posting still correct? Maybe something like that should be sticky?

    4) PvP Rules? Personally I dont really like PvP. Usually I would be happier if it could have been solved without engine, but it is unavoidable in some situations. If I get into PvP, what are the rules? Potions allowed? Limited? No potions? Heal kits in pvp? What am I supposed to do if someone is (ab)using Hide In Plain Sight while he is meleeing me? Are sorcs/wiz allowed to have combat expertise running while casting? Truestrike+Disarm+Loot?

    5) Can you have more than one prestige class? Are there any other multiclassing rules/restrictions?

    Thanks for your help!

There are DMs on almost all the time, from what I've noticed (and since my own time schedules flux so often, I've been on at all hours of the day and night). There's US DMs, EU DMs, Australian DMs, etc.

    2) Alignment-changes. Right now I play a mercenary who could easily be swayed to a good or evil alignment. If someone manages to do this, will a DM adjust my chars alignment to reflect the change?
Alignment changes are rare, but do happen. If you ask for it and have reason enough, then a DM is likely to grant you what you ask for.

    3) Spell changes. I saw the posting with the mage armor (and so on) changes already. Are those armor spells the only spells changed on Sundren and is that posting still correct? Maybe something like that should be sticky?
As far as I know, only the ones that have been mentioned in that one post back then were the ones that were changed.

    4) PvP Rules? Personally I dont really like PvP. Usually I would be happier if it could have been solved without engine, but it is unavoidable in some situations. There are no PvP rules except those decided on ICly. Everything is acceptable unless you and hte other person agree to keep some things out of play.

    5) Can you have more than one prestige class? Are there any other multiclassing rules/restrictions?
Yes, you can have more than one prestige class. I personally have 2. The only restrictions are those mentioned on the Class/Race Restriction thread.

      Thanks!
(Everything allowed in PvP is kinda weird.)

There is a thread somewhere, sticked I think, that does in depth about PvP. It's pretty much true though, its essentially up the people in PvP.

          Greetings!

The PvP rules are here, just to clarify that part http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2786

It's not really a case of everything being allowed.

          How do I get around?

When I meant 'there's not really any PvP rules', I was referring purely to combat mechanics, as that was what he was asking about, rather than the initiation of combat rules listed there.

IIV. In addendum to the PvP rules: Any and every attempt made on the life of Machiavelli and/or his character(s) is fully supported and encouraged.

I had always suspected that must be buried somewhere in the rules .

As for the question about using potions, healing-kits, etc, in PvP; there doesn't seem to be anything in the rules... Use common sense I suppose, if you think your character would be capable of bandaging their wounds while in the middle of an actual fight then go for it ! One of the dangers of this is that a fight can turn into a competition over who has the most potions, and that's not fun.

At least DM's don't offer up experience upon the demise on his character.

                      Hello again,
and another question: Is it supposed to be raining around 90% of the time? It feels kinda stupid sitting around a fire without cover and so on. Even people that like rain IRL avoid going out all the time when its raining (example: me).
Friend said he thinks that is because sundren is near the coast and up in the north... but even then it could be less frequent.

'bout the pvp, it was mainly the engine. Most servers dont allow the engine abuse and things that are not allowed in ADnD or dont make sense. Last server I played (nwn1) was on one side pretty hardcore rp wise, on the other side there were many conflicts, a decent amount of pvp and even the best roleplayers somehow ran powerbuilds.
It makes me kinda happy that no rules are required for the sundren community :]

Come on .. that was hilarious!

I really wish I had screenshotted your tells:

Kaldaris: I'll give you 1000 gold if you kill Hlaine
                        Sigrun: lol

                        *Hlaine attempts to disintegrate Kaldaris*

Kaldaris: It can even be subdual, just get him off me.
                        Kaldaris: HELP

Rain on Sundren is based on real world weather conditions in places like Washington etc. Due to being enclosed by mountains, up north, surrounded by the sea... basically a bowl, generates conditions for near constant rain.

Agreed though, people need to stop standing around bloody campfires in the rain.

PvP rules concerning mechanics almost always result in whining and moaning from players. If the devs see something being abused, then they will make the necessary changes from a programming level rather than enforce characters not to use things. For instance, Shadow Dancers were changed to get HiPS at level 4 instead of level 1, in order to prevent people from just taking that 1 level for the uber ability.

If other things were deemed problematic, the devs would make the necessary programming to fix it. So don't worry about any 'hidden rules' concerning item/ability use.

                            Lovely.

Bout the rain and the camp fire (cough exigo trade post), I am not sure but is it related to the all-buy-npcs there? Maybe adding a tavern(-tent) to the zone could help.
