  • Sundren's Affliction System

So in an effort to further educate our players, I'd like to tell you about a new system I recently developed for Sundren. Some updates in Sundren took a lot of work, and can go entirely noticed by you guys!

Others are obvious, like Unrein's excellent work on the new Sharahan Hills. With Sundren's 100% custom persistent affliction system, players will now find that subtances exist in the world -- drugs that can be addictive, and sometimes even beneficial (depending on circumstance). It also means that things like energy drain will eventually become permanent across server resets, so you really do have to find a greater restoration scroll to get rid of it.

It also means that there will eventually be diseases that are far more "persistent" than your standard flu.

But for the majority of you, you may not even notice that some of these things exist in the world unless you keep your eyes open.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

      Woo! Drugs!

On a serious note, do these effects happen to have graphic portions to them? There was a mod in Oblivion that caused the screen to become blurry, for instance, when a character came down with a disease and fever, which worked to make them feel more immersive. I'm not sure if that's possible with NWN (or if it would be too laggy to do), though.

Great work nonetheless, can't wait to try some. *cough*

And this announcement has succesfully turned a good portion of the server into Junkies. OK, I'm making a dealer when I get back on Sundren.

It's a great idea and the way it should be....it also lends more credence to the disease and poison immunities that certain classes get. All in all, another nice implementation that will go far to help flesh out the world.

I can see episodes of Miami/Sundren Vice on the horizon.
