  • Temple of Kelemvor and Necromancy Scrolls?

Just curious here, but I noticed that the Temple of Kelemvor seems to carry an inordinate amount of necromancy spell scrolls despite the fact that Kelemvor is vehemently opposed to necromancy. Off the top of my head I recall seeing Animate Dead, Create Undead, and Control Undead. Is this because of players finding the scrolls as loot and then selling them to the merchant or are they part of his natural sellable table?

If they are part of his table, then while I can understand if it is wanted to have a location where wizard players can find necromancy spells to scribe, I just wouldn't recommend Kelemvor for it due to his stance on the subject. Perhaps a certain underhanded merchant, such as the Shady Dealer or the Thayan Enclave maybe.

Forgive me if this has been brought up before and reasons were given for it, I did a forum search and couldn't find anything so I figured no one has mentioned it before. And I hope this isn't another slightly metagaming question *hides*.

I thoroughly agree with you, I also raised an eyebrow when I scrolled the priest's wares and saw Animate Dead, False Life, etc... I'd also vote for those to be rather sold in the Thayan Enclave in Aquor or even any other good-aligned temple (I've read a book, Pool of Twilight, where Tyr even raised one of his servants into an undead paladin so he can atone for a cowardly act before his death). Necromancy is not inherently evil, even though many people frown upon the practice (my character included) and it being illegal in Sundren, but Kelemvorites have about the same stance as druids when it comes to undead...

Kelemvor's Doomguides hunt and destroy all forms of undead where and when they find them, and teach people about the natural course of life and death along the way. I remember that the Thayan Enclaved used to sell the necromantic selection of spells, and likely will again. As myself and other members of the staff have noticed of late, a lot of the stores have been messed up and are carrying items at incorrect prices, or simply carrying items not meant to be avaliable to the public. This is probably one of those errors.

Like a certain 1g Red Wizard Robe that a certain merchant seems so hell-bent on trying to sell?

Yeah, that robe was taken out on the first big update i put in. Somehow it found its way back into the mod despite Saluus updating that merchant on his end.

If you need the scrolls from Kelemvor taken out, that can happen, but for being against necromancy, and destroying undead on sight... Its even more odd to have them next to the necropolis.. but thats just me

Are they not acting as a defence and buffer against the restlessness of the undead? Obviously they need help though.

Necromancy are more than making undead. Those kelemvor would likely oppose.
But several others are well suited to combat undead.
Undeath to death comes to mind.

One of my favourite characters is a wizard who specialized in necromancy in because he hates undead, and follows a "know thy enemy" philosophy.
