  • Restrictions on character names? (And Skill Rolls)

Hello, i was looking through the server rules, i must be blind or something but I couldnt find anything on whether there are any restrictions on charactor names. Are there any?

Use common sense, don't use copyrighted named (names from characters in books/movies). I think you can figure it out from there

I've heard a DM ask someone to change his name because he put in his last name a nickname surrounded by quotes " " which interfere when you try to type /tell "character". That's the only non-written rule I've seen enforced up to now. We have NPCs in the Triumvirate wearing the names of Bible characters, and I haven't seen anybody burn a cat or their curtains with a torch for that.

Are there other things that can causes bugs in your character file or with the game engine? Like having a space in your family name (such as Drado the Third, pun intended) ?

Using special letters like ? or ? sometimes causes the cursor to go back to the beginning of the line after clicking on the name in the char chat selection.
Thus the message usually comes out in /l cahnnel, something like this:
                      hello! /tell "sk?gul"

Wich is why my char is named Skogul, and not Sk?gul.

So avoid the ? above letters if you want to avoid annoying people

I think it would be a good idea to put this under some sort of common rule for any new player who joins Sundren. Yesterday I saw a player named "Gotrek Gurnisson". Come on...That is a dwarven hero from the warhammer universe.

if he's got away with it until lev 10, it means its not too well know, therefore it should be fine, should it not?

Well known or not its silly. The few people who do know will be annoyed, or offended. We've had people try Warhammer crap on my server before. They -think- they can get away with it, but *ahem* I'm anal about that kind of thing. I sometimes google names just to check

                            But not my decision *coughsmitecough*

Actually it should be well known, hes the main charactor in a series wilth like 5 or so books. And players should be creative enough to come up with their own charactor names and concepts, it kind of confuses me because the player who plays the charactor seems to be very very creative.
