One: Please, if you are going to play an elf, please read the facts about elves on the Sundren forum, we are actually racist and will ally ourselves with elves before anyone else. Unless of course, it is proven that a specific elf is evil. We usually look down on most races.

Two: with all the new people on Sundren, it seems that they just run amok and don't even ask if you need help, they just run up, kill all around you, take your treasure, and then move ahead of you. Well, that is not very good rp for one and also, you are taking spoils that the victor should keep. Damn, at least say hi and rp your reason for being right behind you in a dungeon or area.

The first point is always a tricky issue when roleplaying anybody. If we go by generalizations then there wouldnt be much to tell about a character cause we would know everything about it.

I recently joined Sundren and i am roleplaying an elven ranger he has developed during his years of existence a huge hatred for Orcs, however when he sees a Half Orc he tends to feel compassion. While the Half Orc still holds orcish blood in his veins, he tends to imagine the pain the mother of that child must have felt when she was most probably raped, or the abuses by what that child must have passed during his entire life raising in a world that hates anything that is different from ourselves.

My character is not a racist by all means although he prefers to talk few about himself. But he is always willing to have a good laugh with humans, halflings and elves. The races he doesnt mingle much with (not saying he doesnt like stand them) are dwarf and gnome since he finds most of them quite irritating to talk to.

Concluding ..... generalizations are usually bad. What kind of background could have made my character be open with most of the other races and not only with the elves?? you will all have to find out for yourselves.

      Cheers!!!

*cough* really? Unless Sundren is now not part of Faerun I think thats a bit off base! Yes Sun elves can be quite stuck up but Moon Elves at least have a different outlook on things.

        From the Races of Faerun:

Of the elven subraces, moon elves are the most tolerant of non-elves. They travel extrensivly, and a moon elf can expect to interact with hundereds of different races throughout her life. Moon elves find the diversity of Faerun's races intoxocating and forever suprising, and they especially value the insights of other races because they often think of things no elf would ever consider. This openess and willingness to accept new ideas is regarded as foolish and dangerous by other elves, so ironically their own kin often give moon elves the coolest receptions
Does not sound racist to me if anything a moon elf at least should be wanting to interact with other races.

Agreed, Moon Elf is not racist or aloof in general.

I guess I did not differentiate between the different types of elves. I read the forum concerning elves and I thought it meant all elves.

"Elves, especially Gold, Wild, and Wood elves, often have a disdain for other races and their items, viewing them as inferior and crude. Although elves tend to hold these views, they also respect certain aspects of their cultures. Examples would be dwarven masonry, gnomish alchemy or mechanisms, or human music and art.

Most Wood and Wild elves, and some other elves, have a strong dislike for half-elves."

Of course Moon elves were not included in the "looks down on other races."

I guess my primary point was a lot of elves I have encountered are vanilla, they get along with everyone, love everyone, and will party with just about anyone. I guess that is most of the player base, which is very boring, IMO. And as to Faerun, I never read any of the stuff, so can only go on what the forum said about elves.

That depends largely on the moon elf's upbringing. If he has spent most of his life on Evermeet, he'd probably be more akin to a sun elf in attitude. If he has dwelt on the mainland for long, he'd most likely be more like how moon elves are depicted in 'Races of Faer?n'.
Most elves should still remain at least a bit haughty, IMHO.

Thats the point, you cannot just say hey its a elf/dwarf/whatever and it must be played like this.

I don't think you guys also understand, races in D&D don't work like Humans. It might be natural that a Moon Elf acts that way because of their race. "His Upbringing" might not have anything to do with it at all. It might be the opposite, where if the Moon Elf is in ever meet, he might stand out as wierd to those elves.

Are they not supposed to be adventurers also, a little bit more open to the world and other races, whatever the elf. If the elves have little time for other races then why do they 'adventure' in a human governed land thats overrun by lots of other races. Far too many translate 'elf' as 'haughty self-obsessed bi-curious bores'... and while im here, what happened to good old fashioned adventuring and battling the forces of evil/good/whatevAr?... rather than the sopa-opera style rp interaction that seems to be quite prevalent. Fairies.

Wont be on tonight, as im off to pick flowers and frollick in the moonlight.

Actually, I am not sure about the current soap opera style RP for elves, I haven't really seen it, except for some elves being friendly to everyone. My RP style for my particular elf is to be sarcastic and to make fun of people that he feels are bores, goody toe shoes, evil bastards, or just stupid. He is a bard, so of course he also jokes a lot, especially during fights or serious times. You should see some of the stuff I have said to the half-orcs roaming around Sundren!

But he also gives people their due if they are good at what they do, such as catch arrows that Tellesian doesn't have to dodge or heals me when I am about to go to Correlon. Anyway, I do agree that you shouldn't stereotype everyone, but that is a natural inclination and even if you are a worldly elf and have lived among many races, your reaction to other races will still be affected by your elven mindset, which is quite different than other races, especially since elves live such long lives.

He also takes his Cousins "other elves" very seriously and will side with them almost all the time unless he feels the elf was really wrong or evil.

I'm like, supposed to get mad at you for insulting other players, but like, I lol'd at this post

I personally, as funny as this sounds, never liked the "Adventurer" mentality, where I am only doing this because it's an adventure. But still, I feel you on the soaps

I can understand that, i play a halforc that was raised by his orcish father, his mother was a human slave to the tribe. My character was horriable abused by the orcs for not being pure, his mother was the only one that showed him compasion that is why now he is trusting of humans and prefers them to others of his kind. But what makes it fun is he still has his orcish anger. Fun fun fun lol haha thats what makes it the best you can role play anything if ya pull it off. I have been lookin for a website that has orcish language but cant seem to find any for some orc words.

From what I understand, the elves that do adventure only do so either to hone their skills, champion a cause in the name of the elves and their gods (such as cleansing the orcs from a given land), or out of wanderlust. Most elves seem content to live out their lives being bisexual, soap-operic faeries. <3
