  • Class RP Tip of the Day - Weaponmaster

The weapon master's connection to their weapon is more than physical, it's spiritual as well. Through training they've unlocked Ki through their weapon. Remember, you're not just a fighter who likes that sword, you've grown very attached to it.

Would be neat if you could have sword that grew stronger with you so that you always kept that specific one. I have seen this on a NWN1 world awhile ago but not sure if it would be right for Sundren since everything so low magic.
    Active Characters:
Tassafina Lightleaf - A little sneaky but not as sneaky as Ithil

    Silivren Anar
    Merka Gillina

    Hideing outs:

    Ravenne Naur'Loki - Roar!

A Weaponmaster is similar to, and basically the equivalent of, what a Monk is with the martial arts and body. They both undergoe rigorous training, self- and spiritual-enlightment, and draw upon that inner ki to bring about harmony. I personally dislike anyone who uses the class without that in mind; liking a weapon, whether a single blade, or an entire school of them, does not lead to such a self-mastery and control. But, that's a personal thing - I'm huge in roleplay motivation in class/multi-class over 'lol wut build i use?' :P
      Active
Reinamar Stormseeker - The bladestorm that must turn back the wind. Arkerym of The People, practitioner of the forgotten art, pariah.

Tyler Penleigh - Obligatory author insert, Red Blade Defender, sarcastic jerk, caring brother, loving fiancé, war criminal.

      Retired/Dead
Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

While i agree with that, i dont think that has to be the case. Again its down to rp and character styles, i think the Ki strike can be viewed as a game mechanic and a character just be damned good with his weapon... still in tune with it, but maybe just not so conciously. Not explaining myself very well, but i had planned my fighter Silas to become a WM and hes a mercenary of Tempus and about as monk-like as Sid Vicious. Though from an rp/character point of view hes been soldiering so long and mastering his greatsword to such an effect that he can weild it one-handed (monkey-grip) and hopefully, eventually, strike with deadly precision etc (ki strike). Though i can genuinly hold my hand up and say ive never finely planned a 'build', its always about the 'character'... im still rubbish mind you

          I agree with Godbeast.

This is why Ember refuses to use other weapons. They feel totally wrong in her hand, because she's trained with a greatsword for a very long time.

I like to have the character take on a bit of the personality of the weapon, as well. Ember's sort of blunt and forceful, with a sharp tongue - much like how a greatsword is big, forceful, deals crushing damage, yet has a sharpish edge.

Weaponmasters are fun to play, and I've always liked the style and feel of the class, as someone who focuses their everything into one hunk of steel or wood.

Ember is about as sharp as a marble....

But PC bashing aside, Yep! I fully agree with none of you.
I think that the WM class should be left up to the players perception, though with some guidelines there to make sure that the WM class does not become too bastardised by the Player's mind.
Which brings me to my next point!
I would love to see the Wiki or some stickied thread that has a tone of general guidelines for character classes. Though, they will not be set in stone, they would help to get someone's mind flowing about what kind of character they want to make (and trust me, the guidelines will not stifle, if anything it is fertiliser)
Though, that last bit should have been in the suggestion forums....

It's not up to players, it's up to DMs ^_^ I'm just saying the class agrees with me, since you can't even use it's abilities with another weapon unless you're epic.

I didn't say how to play a WM or how you unlock the ability and training and such (Obviously it's not the same as monk since the class isn't lawful only). I'm just saying the weapon is something you are deeply connected to for whatever reason.

Well yea, that is a given GBX.....
Anyone who considers themselves a weapon master, logically, should have a deep bond with said weapon. Hell, they should be close to only one weapon, not just one type, (It is kinda like having one really close friend who is a artist, sure you can make a new friend who is an artist, but it is just not the same as the last)

Yeah, thats the reason I never made Jag be a WM (got to thank Satoshi who talked me out of it). A weapon master uses their particular weapon to exclusion of all else. They summon power from within and channel it to the weapon.

I do dislike those people who take WM just so they can have extremely powerful crits. Just not fluffy.
