I?ve been wondering, does anyone else add a little extra to their spell casting, weather its divine/arcane/invocations? Such as, Tes is a cleric. When I have her cast certain spells, i have them drain her. Such as Resurrection, I will have it set her back a lot, make her unable to do much casting wise, mostly sit around for a few hours. After time (levels) I have spells that would take a lot (Like I used raise dead to take much effort) take less and less and not be as draining. Just wondering if anyone else does something similar or adds some spice to their own spells.

Spells and You
Sacrifice everything as the final darkness falls... in the end, all that awaits you is death. Only then will you understand - you've been following in my footsteps all along.
So come then, you heroes! Come in all your power and glory! For in the final hour, all must serve the one... true... king.Tags: None

The subject of how much spells do or don't fatigue characters is always an uncertain one, since the DnD rules are rather liberal on the matter. My personal view when I'm playing casters is that,
-- Spells that would have an expensive material component, and ESPECIALLY XP cost, such as Raise Dead or Wish, would leave one very drained, relatively speaking. Other spells, especially in battle, not so much -- about what normally fighting would do. I want Wish. ;_;
-- Tamara is generally never drained by throwing just one spell, since sorcerers are more or less meant to do a lot of casting. It's natural to them. I do draw the line at resting frequently -- that'll dry even a sorcerer out very quickly since that's a LOT of spell levels used in a short period of time. The other thing is that, relative to her character level, she's casting pretty low-level spells. Combined that with her high Fort. and she doesn't much get worn out unless she does lots and lots of both casting and fighting.Adama who was once called Adama Hrakness, sacred paw of Mielikki

Jaus is actually limited on how many spell-circles per-day (actual IRL days) I let him use. The circles are what he uses to summon creautres.
His conjured attacks and arrmor ( IE: Melf's Acid Arrow and Mage Armor) are relative to only logical senses of exhaustion. To me, constantly casting spells is like studying too much. It's fine at first, then a headache and if you keep going on after that it's a migrane and physical exhaustion.Jaus Rein:"Alvays say eet ees better tau be unnoticed zen tau be a 'eero."

I can understand arcane casters being drained, but ive always seen divine casters as conduits that dont actually have the spell energies within them themselves. They call on their deity to grant them favour and so channel the power, mind you that could be draining in itself.
Mind you, my only spell-casteing pc that ive stuck with has been a halfling cleric of Brandobaris, and he never got tired because of his sheer enthusiasm for it all... i rather expect its been his companions that tired of it. Ive been thinking about bringing him to Sundren, but his last incarnation was level 23 and im not sure i can go through it all again

Well, whenever Melissandre reads a scroll (and when she hits lvl 4 paladin) she tends to say a little quip in Celestial, normally something to do with Songs and tales.~Lyonette L'cyr (Rook)-- Deader than Malaclypse

Well would think a lot would depend on your Con and strength. Kind of like Shal in the Pools of Radiance. Spell casting used to drain her tons...but then she was granted increased strength and stamina from a wish ring. After that magic hardly ever drained her at all.Active Characters:

*nods* Exactly. Its just that most mages were weak and frail, which is why they became mages in the first place. Something strenous is not draining to a healthy strong individual but it is if your sickly.Originally posted by Mattachine View PostI go with PnP--unless the spell specifically causes fatigue, ability damage or xp loss, I don't rp any effort beyond running fast or fighting. Spellcasting is considered "strenuous" activity, but not draining or exhausting.Active Characters:

For me, I do not rp any fatigue or anything else from casting spells. I do enough things in real life that mentally fatigue me, I wouldn't want to replicate that in my only get-a-way from the real world.
I do on occassion RP my character grabbing his book and paging throough it when he rests. But thats about it.Dashmin "Dash" Fleetfoot

Hehe well I think the original poster was just looking to see what other people did. Really I doubt hardly anyone actually plays a sickly character (8 or 9 con) Though I did see one before a long time agoOriginally posted by dashminus View PostFor me, I do not rp any fatigue or anything else from casting spells. Oh, I wasn't meaning anything bad or anything. I was just saying the only RPing I do as a spellcaster is pulling out my book when I rest as he memorizes his daily spells. Sorry if I seemd to come off negetive.
