Another (/NWN1) server I was on handed this out by nominations. You could place a message on a closed sub forum, no one can read it safe for the DM's. So the DM's could give the corresponding players a bit of exp ( or anything else) for their good work.
One plus was a nice database for the DM's, keeping track of good players.
Another plus was that the players didnt know who was nominated where why and by who so there was never fuss over 'but I got nominated, why didnt I get my exp yet ?' situations.
This is the same idea, but just player based.Fret and fear, for Europe is near.

wow.. The dms shouldnt hand out xp for this. it was just to make people feel good about their rping. i find it hard to believe that people can be SO immature, to want xp just because somone said they were good rpers. In frontier we never had complaining like that, it was just for the praise.
As for nominating somone, im not sure who to pick yet >>. Sure, all the people are good here, but frankly... I CANT REMEMBER YOUR NAMES! Valen oakenorc is one, i suppose, for being the only orc player that ive seen so far that doesnt play Duhh..... Me Am Stupid! Its nice to see a change. I dont want to turn this into a praise the dms forum, but DM Godbeastx has been giving my char a very good rping experience.

Well that is the point, it's not a trainload of exp you receive. Something around 50-100, but you as a player know someone ( or more ) is happy with your roleplayingOriginally posted by undeadsteak View Postwow.. . It's only a encouragement backup up by a little gift. Worked like a charm over there.

I kind of agree (although I've personally never got an exp reward for anything, lol). I rp because its fun and I like words, if that makes any sense. I love trying to see how many ways I can say the same thing.Originally posted by undeadsteak View Postbut if we gave out xp, we would have whining. and then we couldnt see who got nominated and who didnt. thats the whole point. See whos a good rper.
Anyways, any rp reward should be done in secret after a DM event so as to not get any raised eyebrows.
I used to do that myself when I DMed PnP, and I would usually just end up giving everyone a bonus to not make em feel left out. I rather reputation points, or something of the like myself. That way one person may LOOK better than the rest but isnt better than the rest.

Thats why you give someone xp for being consistent. If someone starts off moody and ends moody, they were rping. If they were in the corner saying one er two words every little while, thats still good rp in my book.Originally posted by Ethereal Edge View PostIt's hard to say what's a good character and what's a well known character. A character can be completely anti-social and still be a very well made character. Offering rewards to characters who are simply very social and well known tends to be a bit unbalanced at times.
Just saying.
It also takes a good DM to see the chosen arcitypes ppl have made, from the brooding soldier to the loud-mouth wizard.

I'm just glad I've made something I hope will be memorable for you all. Valen is a pure pleasure to play, especially with you all around.Originally posted by undeadsteak View PostValen oakenorc is one, i suppose, for being the only orc player that ive seen so far that doesnt play Duhh..... I'm not going to single anyone out. I generally feel Sundren has been blessed with a fine player base and I enjoy DM'ing what little I can between issues being resolved.
I also played on a server where people gave anonymous recommendations for XP for good RP. The idea is that sometimes players see what DM's don't. I often look for the little things with players when I am among you all.
For example, I was in the Spittlefist caves watching some people RP, and I emoted *The fungus has a pleasant fragrance* or something of this nature. The players decided to work with that, although I was being a bit silly, but it was good to watch them take the time to do so.

.
It was nice to see my first quest ever on NWN2 was a little murder investigation and the only fight was at the end.
It's great to see the Dms play guards while adventurers are standing around and giving players more life in the server than just wandering drunken commoners

On that subject of Rp though.
Allignment shifts.
I know for one my character is in need of it. (And the things I see when there's no DM around makes me wonder as well heh)
How is this going to be implemented for characters? ill we also have to manually ask for them via the DMs? And/Or can something be added automatically? There's a thin line between the definition of genius and insanity; I cross it all the time.

We discussed alignment shifts and felt this was something the DM's should manage. If handled automatically, there'd be alot of room for powerbuilds that were not otherwise available (I.E. Classes that require alignment and the player does something to switch to gain access to other classes. Not that anyone would want to play a Paladin Assassin).
We also didn't want to force players into our view of alignments as alignments are hard to not bring bias upon when determining. However, if we see someone behaving consistently a certain way, we may be forced to shift alignments, but not without warning of course.
That being said, if you feel a character needs a shift, please contact a DM.
