  • *cries* I hate being a bard...

well, thats the 3rd time I died today, lol. Its not like Im diving into the most dangerous of situations either, its from slowly creeping up, weapon ready, in an open field (holding z button ), and then just to get ambushed out of no where.
I realize this is a way to save memory but this makes mages, bards, and rogues pretty much HAVE to be with a fighter or cleric to survive anything, lol. My bard also has a crossbow, but its useless if I just get ambushed all the time. There will never be just a band of anything in the distance, I'll just get jumped no matter how carefull I am.

Im I wrong? Is there ever a time when hostiles are just sitting there chatting or over a campfire, lol.

The triggers for encounters are usually a good distance from the spawn points. As more shops sprout up and roleplay rewards become more frequent with DMs being on, you should have less problems.

Unfortunately right now it's hard to attain the balance between all classes... we're doing our best.

Also, Bards aren't ideal solo characters. It's definetly a support role best suited to being with a party.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I agree that the spawns seem to be a bit too close to the triggers.

Anyone using ranged (spell) tactics is definitely at a disadvantage.

        But that's what it's a beta for.

Personally I must say that I love playing bards, have been playing one ever since they introduced them as a DM-Choice in AD&D first edition. Even though I now tried (for the first time ever I might add) a warrior I do think I have quite some experience as a bard, both the fighter type and the loremaster/singer type (of course, bards are a combination of all and more).

A tip, don't go out alone, very simple, but the best roleplay as a bard you will get only if you have people around you to listen to your singing, your experience with languages and creatures, your knowledge of the world and things in it. If you do have to go out alone, be prepared, use your spells and songs wisely and do not be afraid to run if the odds seem too strong. If you ever have questions, ask them, bards are not prime fighters, but they can give the opposition quite a scare, and as a hint, use spells that bards should (In my opinion) get as a requirement; charm person, charm monster, mirror image, etc etc. Use of these spells will make your life more easy, imagine charming one of the goblins to fight on your behalf? Or how about the ogre that is about to smash you with his club. A simple few words can turn him into your greatest ally! And it's all roleplay technically very good as you are a friend of all, a teller of tales, an entertainer!

Actually.... I think I will create me a bard again, I miss telling stories and singing all night long not gaining experience to level, but gaining experience in the prime-trait of my char, the stories he can weave!

Well, that was my advice, just remember, patience, and be smarter than your opponent, whenever traveling in the wild, ambushes are common, be prepared, and to keep the mood high, sing a song! Tell a story! Do a dance! Then hit them with a fascinate or something similar and they might just let you pass

Eh, yeah... Some triggers spawn monsters a little to close for comfort. But so says that wizard with 14 constitution and dexterity...

I think you missed my point, I was mearly joking with my subject header. Im at least glad that others are seeing how the spawns are alittle too close for comfort.
The reason I was out on my own was I THOUGHT I could maybe pick off a goblin or two in the DISTANCE, lmao.
But yes, I love bards (even though they are like hard mode in pnp). They're multi-tasked and have lots of props... I was just j/kin'. I know Im going to make another character once the beta is over though, dont know what though.

just get polymorph, go into a troll, use ghostly visage, a bull strength, cats grace. I dont know about bards, theyre suppose to be support chars. and my warrior is definetly not a soloer, i put lots of points in charisma just so it represents my chars good looks. but yah.. all those spell casters you said, they are meant for PVP. Bigbys grasping hand, IGMS, Flesh to stone, Disinegrate.

I will admit I love playing Bards myself. But I created a Drow Bard for my beta character. Not sure if I am going to do that again when it goes live. I have spent more time talking with that Aldon looking cleric than anything. As a Drow bard you start out at first level. And with only 7 hitpoints, well you pray the monsters dont' sneeze on you are you will be respawning.

One thing that would be nice to see is after the mob knocks you down to 0 hitpoints they move on instead of keep attacking you to you are totally dead. It would if you a chance to heal up and get away instead of losing xp and respawning.

We are already working on this. Players level 5 and under will not be attacked once goung unconscious, monsters will stop attacking.
