They enjoy themselves just fine because they take things in stride.
Basically my point. I don't worry about it. Sure I like to see my character progress just like everyone else...that's why there are levels in DnD. But I'm not going to worry about going into an area I have never been to an getting killed. Honestly, it's given my character some pretty good tales. Heck I once ran into something that I probably shouldn't have been able to kill at level 3 and managed to take it down after a looooong fight. I have no idea why the game AI did what it did but...well...it WAS weird. I realize that the way I play my character probably means that I miss out on some good treasure drops (bosses) but it doesn't really matter to me...he's fun to play.

Undeadsteak, I hear what you are saying and I never said that a wizard could do what my ranger does...you are right that different classes have a harder or easier time. That's why they are different classes. I also never said that I could go everywhere...I can't...I know a few places that I wouldn't last 30 seconds in. My point that the intent this thread seems to be to get a guidebook together so as to be able to level your character and get gear as quickly as possible.

Ah, i simply think its a guidebook to not getting killed. Going into a high lvl zone is not fun.... Doesn't really say "Inviting."

Exactly. It's like a welcome pack. A simple little helper to point you in the right direction if your lost or confused and help you enjoy it a little bit better.

It's a bit like a welcome pack "Here's the Inn, Here's the shops, a good bit of killing here, a few people hang around here, and here are the toilets."

Oh, and everythime you go to the toilet it is vital that you get a recipet. (10 points if someone gets this reference)

I can understand that. I had suggested that perhaps Port Avanthyr could have a sage of some kind who could give basic knowledge to new players and more detailed knowledge, for a price.

Exactly. I remember that post. Very very good idea that!

I guess what i want to know is, what is the information that everyone assumes everyone else knows that isn't discovered through Sundren lore / RP?

If anyone has created a new character within the past week you will notice I've made a new cutscene sequence before arriving in Port Avanthyr, you also now get an item called "The Traveller's Guide to Sundren". The whole point of the book is to help new players avoid areas that are too high level for them.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Treat it the same way any chamber of commerce works in any city, go here to buy this, go here to sleep, eat, or drink.

Go here to get work (goblin scalps out at the mining area). Churches are here, but beware this one has undead near by, or this one has a zealot paladin who will behead you if you are evil...

Help rid this area of Bandits; so fourth and so on, keep the actually info on what types and bad guy set up general, don't mention there is a goblin camp and a cave, just that goblins infest the area and the mines need protection.

Describe the things you don't want spoiled as if being viewed from afar, or as rumors.

Its a great idea to go this route to help new players.

The book will be in the Sundren City library next update.

This is a great example of what I like so much about Sundren...a development team that does a great job responding to player requests. Oh yeah, they build some pretty awesome areas and some neat scripting too.
