  • Port Avanthyr Smithy

I bought a cold iron blade from the smithy in Port Avanthyr for about 22000 and it has a +1 enhancement and +1d6 cold damage, as well as a frost visual effect. Is this intentional, or am i being overly paranoid?

I'd assumed that it was intentional, since there was also a morningstar of DC14 Slow On Hit, another +2 equivalent weapon. Just in case it's not and removal's necessary, Raina also has a similar weapon.

...I saw another character with such a blade... Just make up some back story on how you got the blade. That is what I would do (because, I believe, on a low-magic server (this is a low magic server right?) there is little chance that a random shopkeeper would have such a blade without being involved in some form of magic-items black market or something like that. Either that or that dwarf merchant was one hell of an adventurer!)

It'd be weird for a whole lot of characters to be running around with the same "Cold Iron Blade" though... Then again, it did take a while for me to accumulate 22000 gold :\

OK.. when did you buy this item? O.o

That shop was just remade and implemented into the server, and I did -not- put that good items there, believe me..
I'm managing all the shops atm and I'm really making them low magic!
There's no RP reason a dwarf smithy would have an enchanted blade like that, if it's going to be good and steady, not far-fetched.
I have a +1 question brewing in this skull somewhere...

oh, that's when the shop weren't updated.. You should either wait for any of the higher ranked dev.team member answers to this post, or just send a PM, since I'm not sure those weapons are supposed to be around.. I believe they'll most probably give you another item in return if you're not allowed to keep it though!

But as I said, I'm not sure. Might be ok since you bought it before we changed the shop.

In the past, that's worked both ways. For instance, people who bought adamantine plate before it was discontinued from Immovable Objects kept it (namely Kai and Alaric, maybe one or two others), but I think that the Belt of Agility +1 was collected for a refund since Freedom of Movement was flat-out too high-powered.

So, yeah. Need to wait for someone senior to answer this one. ^_^

slow on hit and 1d6 damage seem a bit too powerful for me O_o.

More powerful than a better to-hit bonus, d4 irresistible magic damage and +3 to a primary stat? :P

But this is for the staff to decide, so there's little point to gnawing on it further.

Items of this power level were not intended to be stocked in shops--not right now. In the future, players can look forward to being rewarded with new gear availability for acquiring reputation with specific factions however, even then, I doubt anyone will see something with elemental damage as included property, let alone free action.

I also think it was more along the lines of "People shouldn't have 22,000 coins too quickly". However, as always, loot must be balanced

We're balancing things out at the moment, yeah. Expect some... Bumps, along the way.

Or, as that sword, expect the wagon to drive off a cliff...

As for the item; I'd say it be replaced with something less powerful, and a compensation in gold be issued.

Out of balancing interest; How long did it take you to accumulate 22.000 gold pieces?

about two months? i think it's an exponential process...right now my new character can barely scrape together enough for a set of potions. It gets easier as the character gets stronger though.

A similar timeframe for Raina, though I didn't play her continuously for two months... mainly, though, it was because she lucked into / got sold some good magical items, and so didn't need to keep any of the magical loot.

As with any PW I've encountered, right now magic drops are the most consistent way to make gold on Sundren.
