  • Playing a Mute?

I'm trying to play a mute. *Signing* is no problem, neither is grunting and growling during a fight, but it kind of blows the effect when my character suddenly shouts "To me!" Is there any way to get rid of the voice over? So others cannot hear it?

And yes, I saw the post Character customization by Lallendos. But since this has nothing to do with appearance... *shrugs*

There's two solutions to the problem that I can think of:

The first is using the HotU Leto to remove the soundset completely from your character (it works, but you have to use the advanced editor and it can be tricky), but this would require Saulus or someone else to access the vault directly, so that would be up to them.

The second is one you can perform on your own. The Vault has two major Soundset Overrides at the moment, and there's some Soundsets in these that contain either minimal battle voices or none at all. You'd simply need to choose one that wouldn't be heard during battle (cycle through until you found a voice set that didn't have the battle sounds, I suppose. One of the commoners, perhaps). This would require the remake of your character, but you could do it yourself.

Hope one of these solutions helps. I'll link the two soundset overrides below.

I was holding off on making my character until I got a reply. Thanx.

For the second idea. Would everyone else be able to hear the voice (or lack of) that I would be hearing?

If the soundsets are not normally present in the game, and the other player does not have the override (such as is usually the case with the Baldur's Gate ones, in my experience), then he or she will not hear any sound at all (and no text appears in the box, with most of the 'non-campaign' soundsets). If it's a soundset normally present in NwN 2, however, then yes, the other player will hear it. Recently found a better solution, however.

I just searched for a couple more and found this one:

        Altered Soundset 2DA
        http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view....Detail&id=633

That has a couple that are held 'blank' near the end. If you choose one of these, the game registers a soundset, but since there's no actual sound file, there won't be any voice. This probably suits you much better.

Oh, and as a side note... Why are there always more Male voices?

P.S. If anyone wants just the voicesets that are 'full' (aka, every 'V' command works), they can be found here:

I played a mute monk. I had his voice set removed by Euniana

I think I found two that should meet my needs. Both 'BlackGarius' and 'Koraboros' have the grunts of exertion and a death-rattle. Sounds that I would imagine a person with no vocal cords would still be able to make.

Now if I use this soundset, what of the other voices and such in the game? Would they be changed as well?

No; these add or 'unlock' the voicesets for PC use, but they don't edit the voicesets themselves. Nothing should be changed.

I too would like to thank everyone that helped with this. I made my character last night, and the voice set worked great (so far ).

His name is Kurs Blac. If you see him, don't be shy about striking up a conversation. You probably won't get much of a response though, considering he can't talk. *laughs* ;P

Always happy to be of assistance, and I'll definitely look forward to seeing your character online.
