  • nwn2 install questions: "modules"

Are the files that are located in the "C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\Modules" directory needed at all or just if playing the original game?

I am looking to build an XP guest that uses as little disk as possible. I have been using Win7 guests but their base OS is 10GB. This Modules directory contains ~5GB of data.

I'll have to look into that folder to say one way or the other (unless you care to list the contents here).

0100 to 3500 can probably go. They are the main NWN2 campaign. Beyond that it depends what other things you have! Always best to back things up onto a flash stick in case you need any of it again.

I was having a real pane some time back when I first tried this. I since learned that I can fork-lift the "C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights" directory so I am trying again.

        I have:
1 copy of base XP OS (fully patched)
1 copy with NWN2 CD install and fork-lift (for patches)
1 copy with the above to verify it runs and can connect to a persistent world (still downloading all the files).

I plan on removing unnecessary files (OC) from "C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights". My goal is to have a VM that is small that I can always go back to say if I upgrade to Windows 10 and NWN2 stops running.

Also if others are having issues I can share the ~20GB VM.

I don't have any issues with Windows 10 and NWN2 FYI...
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

            Same. I don't even run NWN2 in Compat-mode.

Also, good-luck: if you manage to figure out the minimums, I'ld be interested to hear.

// side note one additional reason for this is I like to play on my work laptop (with limited diskspace) having a VM allows me to do this, I can even run from USB key.

I will play a round and keep you informed as to what I can pull out.
