  • The Great Server Wipe and restricted races...

So, I've been gone for a few months, but I came back to read all the information on the upcoming server wipe, timeline jump, and character wipe. All in all it looks pretty exciting!

I am sad to see that old characters will not be able to return, but this does bring up a point of concern for anyone who primarily played a restricted character earned through RPer of the month, (or, in my case, a Sundren writing contest).

Will players such as myself be able to submit a bio for a new character? I understand the old one is gone and any new one would need bio approval, but do we still have a "restricted character slot", so to speak?

It was my understanding that Sundren did away with the RPer of the month thing entirely, and was now judging characters on a case by case basis based on the application/bio submitted for them, but I could be wrong.

In any case, I think moving away from any vestiges of that oligarchic system will only be a benefit to the server. Nothing turns me off to a new server more than realizing other players have things I could never have, no matter how hard I work for them.

I 100% agree with your last point...new players should absolutely get the same opportunities as old players.

If it's handled on a pure application, case-by-case basis now then this thread is moot, but I didn't see that explicitly stated anywhere. It would be the better way to go, in my opinion.

There will be no restricted classes/races or nobility at launch.

We will make an announcement when we plan to let the community submit character requests again for restrictions.

And truth be told, we're looking at re-implementing RPoTM when the server starts again, only with more RP-based rewards rather than mechanical ones.

For example, a personal event having to do with a PC's backstory, faction, etc.

And in order to counter the "popularity contest" aspect of the voting, we'll probably use some kind of two tiered system, where the players nominate others and the DM's vote, or vice versa.

/// I played on a server where players had the option IG to recommend others for XP based on their role playing. They had to give examples (not just X is so funny) and the staff would review and approve as they saw fit.

Because of the mechanics involved, perhaps a forum like the character request one we have that is used only for promoting other players (in private). Ultimately the staff would judge based on the feed back the players give. They can weed out the "popularity contest" aspect because they are smart and just!

Didn't sundren tools GUI have something like that or was that just to track RP xp?
