  • Player Reputation: You make it... You break it!

    Players, you build your reputation in the community. So, if you go around flaming and degrading people and acting like a general nuissance or an ass in game, in posts and/or in PMs, then chances are that others may already know about it. Yes, news flash, the crap you do to other players goes around to soil your reputation. You are the instrument of your own demise. Unless you change, your days are numbered. There are others around who do not care to be the recipient of these actions and will tell you... consider it a favor; shut your mouth and extract yourself from the mess you are creating. Before you start with someone, just think about your reputation and how long you would like to stick around.

    Here's my view on this.

    In character is completely seperate from out of character: please keep that in mind. A character and a player are seperate entities, respectively, and as such OOC and IC should (obviously) not come to conflict. I play a lot of asshole personality characters in character; that's simply how they are. Respond to that in character - retaliate with your own insults, walk away, initiate PvP tell warning, etc. Do not, however, start whining about it OOC or break the immersion - that's simply immature.

    On the forums, or out of character, I like to think I'm a pretty cool and understanding guy. I like to have fun, help new players, and generally be a part of the community. I'm a mature roleplayer who likes mature roleplay - when I get into character, that's exactly what I do. If you don't like that -send me a tell, and/or simply ignore me. I'm not going to interact with someone who doesn't interact back.

    Basically: don't cross the wires. If your an asshole out of character, expect other players to treat you as such. If your an asshole in character, expect to be ostracized, humiliated, or shunned by the other characters.

        You have it right on. The major concern here, as you say is IC and OOC. The failure to keep these apart can be particularly problematic since being an ass IC can be expected but being an ass OOC is not acceptable.

          Would like to add that it can be a smart thing to do to talk OOC after an hostile action, especially if it was a surprise attack or anything. Remember to congratulate for good RP and also say thanks for it. Always helps the mood and also is a good band-aid on any sour feelings

            I really like this. Being the sensitive type that I am, I can't help but feel a teeny weeny bit hurt when one of my characters meets up with a real jerk. My mind completely understands the reasons behind it, but my emotions refuse to cooperate. I don't think I ever let this affect how I RP through the encounter. However, I can say from experience, that when I receive a tell saying something positive afterwards, I can go on my happy way with a good feeling about the whole situation.

              Yes, some OOC chat consideration before or after can really smooth over some rough IC chat and make both parties feel better about the RP. Afterall, we are here to enjoy the RP. Remember, some of us played primarily on MMOs where RP is quite low... learning these strategies help make the RP better for all.

              And along these lines... One player asked me OOC if he could put me on Hostile so he could track me. Of course, I said Yes. For the most part, this consideration cut out the fear of getting ganked and allowed the play to continue naturally. I was impressed.

                Well as people know, Jag is an ass IC (though he has been changing). I hope people don't think I'm an ass OOC, but if they do I hope they'd tell me so I could work on changing (If the person's reasons are valid).

                  No one should cause problems with another player because of valid RP, ever. It ruins things. I'm not aware of anything currently revolving around this problem, but we'll see what the future holds.

                    In an Euclidean world out-of-character doesn't touch in-character at all. Sadly, that's not the case. I suggest you realize that if you're playing a sadistically evil character you just may not recieve the warm, fuzzy welcome you might want all the time in out-of-character conversation -- but rarely I find this in-character influence causing major problems.

                        Sure, Jaggath may be an ass IC, but he has his times when he is not. Personally, I do not see you as Jaggath being an ass OOC. You play Jaggath well... get him another level in asshole!

                          Jaggath is always an ass IC. Nuff said. ^_^. But yeah, too many people take IC things personal. But yeah, lets remember this isnt WC3 and we cant swear at every single person and talk crap about them whenever you want to. This is a mature roleplaying community .

                          And Jaggath is no way an ass OOCly.

                            Sometimes things get a little too stale and goody-goody - in which case trading a few insults can spice things up. However, it is very easy to send a tell first to keep things friendly OOC. (example: "Do you mind if my char insults yours?") That also begins a conversation to keep things from going to CvC if it is not wanted by both parties. (example: "yes, but don't push him too far or he will attack") If you know the player this wouldn't be necessary of course.

                              I find that if you send a tell after a good RP exchange, it is better for both parties involved. I usually send a tell afterwards thanking them for the exchange and that they did a great job (everyone so far has done a great job).

                              I even accidentally (well, maybe not) hit someone in my party with a blast and it was roleplayed very well. It was the same person that put me on hostile to track me, which I thought was pretty damn cool!

                              I am thoroughly enjoying Sundren so far and everyone seems to be cool. Remember, its a game!
