  • Dyeing (not dying)

Hey, just wondering if anyone has any experience with dyeing. Specifically I am trying to make a Red woolen cloak, to be used to make a Red cloak of resistance.

I have some red dye, some wool and the plans for both the woolen cloak and the cloak of resistance.

I've seen some fitting dummy plans in the shop, do I need one of those too? If so where do you get wooden planks? I looked in some shops that seemed like they logically might have planks but they don't.

Do I dye it when making the wool cloak or when enchanting it?

    Thanks!

    ooh, ooh, ooh, pick me!

    Few things in order:
    1) Unfortunately, neither method will work. Cloaks of Resistance have a fixed appearance, which is a green cloak with a rounded bottom at about knee level. Changing the appeance would require asking a DM to switch the bonus over to a wool cloak customized to how you want it to appear, which is a task I have discovered to often be denied, as the staff usually has other concerns.

    2) To customize a item's appearance while crafting it (if the design allows for it, which some don't), you will need a fitting dummy. These vary by gender and race, and are made by woodworkers. James sells them for 300 GP each, along with some assistance on how to pick the right one.

    3) If a design does allow for customization, it does not care about the appearance of any of the components going in, and you would need to re-customize the appearance for the new item.

Feel free to let me know if there is additional topics or questions.

    Cheers,
    Kit

Thanks Kit! What I will probably do is make a red cloak and a seperate cloak of resistance and then wait til a DM says "Anyone have a request?". I usually am stumped for what to request but at least now I have 1 thing!
