Given the farmer history and that you do not want to be as Holier than Though character, maybe you should start as a Fighter (farmer stage) and then take Divine Champion Prestige levels. Maybe a combination of Ranger/Fighter/DC or Rogue/Fighter/DC.Benton Ma, Illusions Inc.

Bindragon, I can't do that as I do not share your interpretations. Beside I am more interested in the story, what makes sense and believable for my Paladin.
Farmers are commoners, I think they are actually their own class, they are not Fighters. If I remember correctly, a character could stay as a commoner all his life, until they get involved with the story and become the first level of Fighter, Ranger, or what have you. So there could be an eighty year old commoner turned level 1 Ranger!
Also, I have decided my Paladin is his god's chosen. He is a Paladin from the start, he is not spending his life in trying to becoming a Holy Warrior by becoming a Ranger first. He is no less "Holier" than any other Paladins, I wanted to say that he is not a snobbish person like some of the extreme Paladins out there.
Here is the character outline:
"My Paladin was an ordinary farmer from outside of Sundren, who had visions of forth coming disasters of his village, and instructions of how to save and prevent them. Although he is cleared that these visions are given by Chauntea, but he hastate in telling others about it. Although farmers can be simple folks, they are also proud people, to take the claim of a divine chosen in the environment of his village, it would have been seen as a lunatic, especially Paladin of Chauntea are rare.
Instead, he performed the task that was given to him, proving the power of Chauntea within him.
His tasks was to rescue the village’s farmlands from the forth coming storm, rebuilt them, then to prevent the village form a bandits (Bandits of Talon?) raid the year after.
And he has completed them.
And afterwards, he has entered Sundren to his next tasks".
"To his new tasks" Seems rather abstract, I don't want write too certain on his purpose in Sundren, such as that, "He has received another divine vision and is off to the Church of Chauntea and united with other Paladins and protect the world!"
I feel that receiving divine task and visions form the gods in Sundren could actually quite demanding on DM's attention, I just don't want to get stucked by saying, "The Great Chauntea has told me to find her Church here in Sundren", then somebody says, "Errr, sorry sir, there isn't one".
Feedbacks welcome!"You must gather your party before venturing forth".
