  • A question on the spell - Sending

The text of the spell says that the subject recognizes you if it knows you:

    My questions are:

    1) How well must the subject know you in order for it to recognize you?

    2) I know that a character is notified of the actual player's name upon receipt of a sending, what happens if you go by a name other than your character's name?

    1) You need to be familiar to send it it's probably safe to guess you'd need to know each other reasonably well to recognise the person, name, voice etc. A particularly grating, obnoxious or otherwise unique voice might be easier to recognise.

    2) I would say it goes by name known. You know Steven as David, when David shouts you recognise him as David. Just because he's talking via spell doesn't mean you go "I recognise that voice! But he's called Steven, that terrible imposter!"

It's not like the spell contains a header with the participants true names in.

So to use the SMS analogy that has been brought up before, like a contact's list?
you have the a number in your phone with a certain name assigned to it, and its unique for your phone and other people may have different names for the same number
when you get a text from that number, you recognize it based on the contact name you already programed in.

Aye, I suppose I am wondering if there is any way to "mask" the recognition of a sender.

I've been tossing around some character ideas over the past couple of days. This simply came to mind as a possible fun way to "haunt" people via RP, I mean if the other player allows for it would it be okay to keep the sendings anonymous?

How would you know to send them a spell if they don't know you? I think a major requirement for this kind of communication requires a degree of familiarity between both people in order to work.

See, in was going to put in a "shut up Kit" after that analogy, but erred (wrongly) against it.

For sending I wouldn't suggest text at all, though given the medium we play in I can see the confusion.

I'd suggest the spell as a rudamentry form of telepathy sending a verbal (thoigh not necessarily vocalised) message from one party to another and back again.

I'm sure their are loads of "Master, is that you? Where are you?" type examples around, but I settled for this one.

One can certainly hunt/shadow another person and become familiar with them no?

                Yes, you can.

It could work as a concept in the short term, but I'd be dubious about thew long term viability of playing a creepy lonely stalker.

Especially once your victims get upset enough to call in some forensic thaumatologists.

And I was actually referring to this when I made that post. I blame Lotus for the confusion.
