  • Thayan Faction Activity?

    Hey everyone,

Was wondering if there's any activity for the Thayan Enclave both player and DM wise. If anybody could clerify that for me, that would be awesome. I was interested in making a Thayan character if worth it.

    Thanks,
    AusGre

Thay currently has three "active" players.

    • Sandro (sonuvalich) is on pretty frequently. (Odd talking about myself in the third person)

    • Tas Krita (kingarthur29) had a burst of activity over the last 2 months, though is spending more time on alts right now.

    • Kris Blake (sparky501) is a Knight, but is also Sparky's 3rd or 4th most beloved alt character.

DM wise is a tricky wicket, because frankly I can think of 2-3 DM's who run stuff for it, but the rest tend to give it a berth for various reasons.

Long and short, I would love more people joining the faction and creating RP opportunities and bigger posses, but I feel obliged to be upfront that it is not the easiest faction. It is an awesome faction and well worth it, but it is tough and sometimes frustrating, and some characters really get up in your business just because you're an evil slaver drug dealer or are walking around with a deathknight out or something.
I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

Kethoth Ahnk is technically around, but he's busy trying to figure out why his evocation isn't as frequent or potent as it was pre-sundering.
      Active
Reinamar Stormseeker - The bladestorm that must turn back the wind. Arkerym of The People, practitioner of the forgotten art, pariah.

Tyler Penleigh - Obligatory author insert, Red Blade Defender, sarcastic jerk, caring brother, loving fiancé, war criminal.

      Retired/Dead
Eirimil Gaelazair (Dead)- Bitter. Caustic. Abrasive. Egocentric. Probably right. Found dead in the burned-out Viridale forest a few weeks after the survivors were able to sweep the area after the Bloodmaim offensive. Aside from his usual attire, an intricate music box was the only thing in his possession.

I'm certainly not trying to be the absolute authority on all things Thayan, but I was only considering people active if I had seen the character logged in over the last month or two and/or had seen any posts or responses in the Thayan forum. I understand that some people cannot access the forums due to being in another faction, but if you or other players with semi-active Thayan characters would make at least the odd post in "Roleplay Central" it would go a long way towards assessing how many PC characters are floating around.

That also sounds like an interesting story point that some DM even could work with (e.g. "curing" some malady that is interfering with your evocation, making pacts with extra planar creatures to boost power, etc.) that I had no idea was floating around in the Enclave. I also know that Josirah was last seen in the Abaddon because of magical maladies that I have no idea if they ever got fixed. I am curious if more people have characters at stalled out points or in semi-retirement that we could coax back into playing, because the Enclave needs more activity.

Alright, cool. Thanks for the information, it seems like there would be some worth trying to get into the enclave and spark some RP there. I'm not too sure on the situation surrounding the Enclave to be honest, like what's going on politicly or their economic status, but I'm willing to learn. I was debating making a Knight or a Wizard, but I'm unsure right now. Maybe if one of the members would be so kind to message me privately, perhaps they could help me with the details and help me make a good Thayan character?

          Thank you,

Don't feel limited to just Thayan Knights and Red Wizard classes. The Mulan culture does have a middle class of merchants and priests. And of course, various types of slaves.

I had planned between a mix of merchant and something else. I mean half the reason an enclave exists is to control at least a portion of the magical items market in the region, as for being a slave and such... I just don't have the stomach to handle such abuse, I'm much too... Resistant to being slave material, I suppose. But I do understand what you are saying none the less and I thank you for the information!

              thanks,

You could always make a play at being the slaver. There is a Prestige class called Thayan Slaver, since the class does not exist, you could do a custom version through the classes already available. The Thayan Gladiator is less likely to be done, because you need to have a natural attack.

To be involved, I would love to see the enclave expand a bit and have its own arena, because we know they love a good sport. Also for the enclave to challenge the Exigo on supplying minor magical items.

I have always loved the lore of Thay. I imagine an enclave as a self sustaining community within a greater city, having everything one would need being outside of Thay itself.

                Just my opinion is all!

                  Playable thayan gnolls.

Once again I demand playable kobolds! Deekin 3.0, bitches!

That tangent aside, I want to address a couple points made in previous posts. People not knowing what's going on with the Enclave politically is intentional. Second Sundering lore made public, to the best of my knowledge, the information that many in the Enclave said "screw you guys, I'm going home" and that we are a diminished force, numerically. Being in a position of potentially perceived weakness, we as PC's do a lot of maneuvering to be on the good side of as many factions as possible, and are really pressing that whole neutral ground thing (e.g. offering to serve as negotiating grounds between hostile factions, for a small fee) but if we favor any one side we have generally kept it on the down low. My hope is to keep that trend going, because everyone should trust us enough to do business with us, but always expect there to be multiple angles in play.

Economically, we have continued to RP as though the Enclave were a very wealthy establishment. I have made good coin selling spells to adventurers, and it is reasonable to think other wizards do the same with the Enclave getting a cut. We have slaves and drugs and magics (oh my) for sale, and shady people in the valley who would buy them. We have good crafting facilities that can be rented, a bank that people banned from the city can access, a temple of ........, and so on.

What we lack, and what is bothering me of late, is items. Neither of the 2 active Red Wizards took much in the way of crafting feats (losing 2 schools took some of the wind out of my sails for making items since I couldn't be a completionist). People assume, in a manner that fits with RP/lore, that the Enclave can make a lot of stuff they desire in terms of rings, amulets, armor enchantments, etc. And we SHOULD be able to, but we lack the PC's who can. If you wanted to make a craftsman, he/she would fill a big hole in the Enclave right now, and probably make some bank doing it. Maybe a wiz/cleric of kossuth/theurge? Obviously make what you want, this is just my educated opinion on what the Enclave is really hurting for at the moment.

Alright, thanks for the info once again, that does help out a bit and I'm surprised about that. I would think that the Enclave might give some... I dunno, crafting bonus or supply bonus that would help out the guild corner the markets and yeah, I can see why a lot of people don't choose the crafting side of the arcane classes (I want more power! Haha.), but that's an interesting point and that might help you guys a fair deal, as you said. I could always do a Wizard/Cleric/Theurge or something of the like and have a fair deal in crafting. Although, I really don't know the system that the server uses for crafting honestly.

The position of the slaver does sound interesting, but I'm not sure how that would play out in Sundren... I mean, if you slave in the vale on anybody's turf, you're kinda setting yourself up for failure. Unless you're targetting the orcs or some other faction's stuff. Plays with your diplomatic angle a fair bit.

Well, I'll pop on tonight with a character and see what I can do. Hopefully I can find a character in the Thayan Enclave to help me out, my character will be from Thay (naturally) and we will see what goes from there!

                      Thanks again!
