  • A Question about Aggro

So this might be a little more of a meta question then most people can answer, but what is the aggro priorities set to mobs?

Me and my friend were out at Mossclaw Meet tonight and we kept running into the same problem over and over. To start a fight my friend would charge into an enemy group and I, as a rogue, would wait until he got a few swings off before going in to sneak attack. I would go in and get one maybe two sneak attacks off before the majority of mobs would turn around and focus on me.

Short of taunting them, a very unreliable process, they would stick to me like glue. Anyone got any insight about this?

Just for the benefit of people who are interested, I am a level 6 Strongheart Halfling Rogue, and my friend is a level 5 Human fighter. I am wearing a chain shirt with 2 daggers, he is wearing full plate with a falchion.

Any help you can give me into understanding this problem would be great!

I think AC has something to do with it. Mobs seem to like targeting someone they have an easier time hitting.

Don't take my word on it, though, as this is just from personal observation.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

I was running around a 22 AC because I had a potion of Barkskin on. My friend in Full-Plate had around 20 unbuffed.

Sometimes, it seems like they act semi-intelligently. Turn to face the Sneak Attacker, run to engage the archer, etc. Other times it seems like it's totally random.

I think the only way to force an attack is the Diversion ability, which uses up a whole round and requires a high Taunt score, or paladinhood.

It's whoever is standing closer to them. If your friend WASD's DIRECTLY AS CLOSE TO THEM AS POSSIBLE he will have aggro about 95% of the time.

That is very useful advice thanks! Will be useful for saving bleeding-to-death comrades...

They will also assign a higher priority to recently healed individuals, presumably because they were attacking them to begin with and stopped for some reason (ran out of range, went into bleed-out, etc.).
In my experience, casting Cure Minor on your bleeding buddy on the ground to stop him from slowly fading away will often cause whatever your fighting to turn around and whack the dying character, even if they are still at negative.

AI likes to attack bards. They REALLY like bards. Either that or they were after Murin's ale.

My experience is that mobs will attack the individual with the higher AC.
                  Cheers!
