Disappearing Enemies?

Hey guys, not sure if I've done something to cause this or not but I was just in the great mushroom area of the Viridale, about to take on the mushroom queen when suddenly she disappeared.

Is there some trigger to make this happen? Or should I have posted this in the bugs section?

I believe most if not all bosses despawn after a while, I'm not quite sure why. But I do think it is intentional. I'm guessing it's to preserve the integrity of the encounter - i.e., so that you can't beat a boss by just throwing yourself at it over and over, dying and respawning, until eventually you chip its health away.
