  • New Players: A note about Disarm

So you have Disarm as a feat, and it's grand! Indeed it is. There are several problems you should be aware of when using however. If you have Disarm, and still lack Improved Disarm, be mindful of where you use it. While there is always a chance your opponents weapon is destroyed, but when you fight next to a physical void, rivers, streams, canyons, cliffs, some times a disarmed weapon can be sent to the ground and end up irretrievable. Several of my characters have Disarm, and I only try to use it when there is plenty of flat ground around.

While Improved Disarm generally will add the item to your inventory, there is also the chance a weapon will be sent to the ground or just utterly destroyed. If you intend to use Disarm, I strongly encourage taking Improved Disarm to avoid hard feelings in the heat of a moment when you destroy someone's 50k stag weapon. Most players if not all, will be fine with the way things play out, so long as PvP protocol is followed. It is however, something to be mindful of.

I myself have sent player's weapons to the bottom of the river, or occasional canyon by mistake in my time playing here. And recently had one of my own weapons lost in such a way. I enjoy Disarm, and it's a useful and vital battlefield feat. However, I would just like to caution Disarm users to know the power they wield. What took someone months to save up for can be lost in the blink of an eye in an exotic fighting location.

Lesson: Take Improved Disarm, and if you lack it, please be mindful of the battlefield you use it on. Your opponent may still be upset, but all is fair in love in war.

    Improved Disarm:

    Bug Notes
As of version 1.12, this feat does not work as described. If you disarm your foe while carrying a weapon, your foe's weapon will fall to the ground. If you instead disarm your foe while fighting barehanded, your foe's weapon ends up in your inventory.
While Disarm destroyed the the target's weapon, if used against NPCs, Improved Disarm usually does nothing even after a *hit*. If a NPC uses Improved Disarm against you, chances are you permanently lose your weapon, even after killing the user, or find it in a completely different place, far from the battlefield.

I think the bug with imp disarm is that if you cant not use the weapon you are disarming it has an almost 100% chance to destroy the weapon instead of it going into your inventory. It has something to do with it trying to equip the disarmed weapon and it not working out. Regular disarm is far safer as it lands on the ground.

Basically, disregard most of what Yev said. Stick to plain ol' Disarm, and use it where there's lots of walkable ground.

And recently had one of my own weapons lost in such a way.
          Mmm. That karma.

Ah man. I took improved disarm >_<

I always return the weapons I jack in the middle of battle
            ask anyone.
Step in front of a runaway train -
            just to feel alive again.
            Pushing forward through the night,
            aching chest and blurry sight.

It's so far, so far away~

Cold wind blows into the skin,
can't believe the state you're in.

I've personally have never had a problem with improved disarm, even after using it many many times. Though I do know the bug exists.

My Disarm character can use simple, martial, and exotic weapons, and haven't lost a weapon since I got Improved Disarm, for the record. I did not realize you had to be able to use a weapon to capture it. It would explain a lot though.

As a player who lost an irreplaceable weapon and who has made others lose their weapons all I can say is: don't pvp with a weapon you can't afford to lose and carry back up weapons. Disarming an opponent is a huge advantage in a fight and you can't expect someone not to use the feat just because your weapon might go poof. Losing some of these weapons is actually much more painful than death and has even more far reaching consequences. (Yev almost crapped his pants when he thought he lost a weapon that wasn't his )

Just be a monk, no one can disarm a monk.

I think that would just mean our arms would get lopped off XD

If the need to equip the grabbed weapon is true, then making martial and exotic proficiencies prerequisites for Improved Disarm is one way of reducing the item-loss potential, at the cost of dramatically increasing the cost of obtaining Improved Disarm.
