  • New Players: How to Exit the City

    1. The exit from the barracks you wake up in is centered on the eastern wall.
    2. Once outside, look around you: you'll see a long ramp ascending to a structure. Walk up that ramp and enter the structure.
    3. Once inside, walk straight ahead and into the portal.
    4. You're now on the ground!

There are new character vendors in the city in the Forum and on the ground at the Gate of the Sunderer. There's a quest in the city, and there's also a quest given by a Lathanderite Priest at the Gate of the Sunderer that will give way to a string of additional quests to help guide your exploration of the server.

To get back into the city:

    1. Retrace your steps. In the guardhouse, where a line of refugees wait to enter the city, you can talk to Aenator Kuan. You can bribe him to give you refugee papers. Otherwise, through joining certain factions and other role play avenues, you can acquire more permanent citizenship papers.

    2. Move ahead into the portal room. There is a female legionnaire there checking papers. Talk to her. She'll check you out, and then you can use the portal. Use the portal!

    3. You're back in the city. Hooray!

How to Leave the City, Abridged:

    1. Leave the barracks via exit, eastern wall, center.
    2. Instead of going up the ramp, go the other way, to a transition.
    3. At the transition map screen, choose "Gate of the Sunderer."

    You made it!

Or: Die and respawn. As will probably happen if you pursue the starter quest and the bitch of a boss right away.

Sorry to hear that, we do have newbie death rules at low level so experiences like this shouldn't be a real set-back, however we are always looking for feedback to improve the new player experience.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Where you respawn depends on your alignment and/or faction, by the way.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Saulus, I tried the fight with a monk tanking and my arcane archer in training and we got schooled. I think it was because she was dazing on hit, which is rough at level 3. However, a better group or a more full group should have had no trouble with that. 1-2 people trying to duo everything might experience some trouble. Love them cubes though! I vote more cubes.

We want it to be doable with a solo PC. We'll revisit and revise it.

Just curious, but I'm assuming there is no possible overland route to get into the city? No trade roads or anything that would bring one up to a gate somewhere that isn't nestled away in the mountains as far as you can get from the city while still being on the world map?

Took me a good hour to figure out how to get in (although I saw some fantastically built areas on my epic quest to get back to square 1), looking at Sundren on the map and trying at approaching it from the north, east, south and west roads. :P

Still, managed it for only 10 gold! Looks like I need to be sure I can find a merchant and save up if I ever want to get in again! That, or join up with a guild! Still studying up on that bit.

City is floating. That's why you can't just walk in.

That certainly does explain that. I probably should've perused the lore rather than just skimming bits. >_>

I'll roll up a NPC gnome who will hand out parachutes to all new players stuck in the city. But just a warning, every other parachute will only have a turnip packed in it.
