  • Crafting System

Just wondering, is a new crafting system still on the table, or have we abandoned it as being in the "too hard" category?

I new what I was signing up for when I decided to be a crafter and didn't expect to be able to make anything god-likely powerful, but even basic items seem to require almost impossible to get materials.

    Examples:
Basic Magic arrows: Require Mossdale pinewood, which I have never met anyone capable of logging. If there is someone I'm sure they charge billions of stags since they must have a monopoly on it.

Headband of Intellect: Requires silver or gold. Have been unable to acquire either. Apparently gold (required for the semi-useful +2 Int version) is not mine-able.

Can I please request some of these materials to be added somewhere for sale? Even if its just for the interim until the craft system is patched.

Yes, I realise my RP writing sucks. Just be thankful I keep it short

I think there was a gold vein somewhere other then the Naga caves, but I can't seem to think where. In any case, to make Alchemical Gold/Silver you need to have the plans so you can combine it with another metal to harden it.

As for the Mossdale Pine, I can't comment on who is out there.

There used to be two mines of most ore types, and there are one or two loggers out there.

There was only ever one gold vein and it was in the nags cave which is now mone accessible. I've seen a few dwarves capable of mining mossdale pine

Even if they still play, you will probably get the same as what happens with gems, they will charge 5000 or 10,000 for each piece. If that is the base cost to making a stack of 99 arrows, then what am I meant to sell it for? 15,000??

You can see the dilemma that a crafter faces...

At least some of those items need to be either available from vendors, or much easier to Mine/Chop (probably the later would be better, so the gatherers still play a role). It could be another 2 years til we get a new craft system. Now I'm not saying that's anyone's fault, the developers all have lives and aren't being paid, but in the meantime a fix which would take 10 mins to implement would be awesome.

          Instead of...
          Woodcraft 5 ranks = impossible, 10 ranks = impossible, 15 ranks = impossible, 20 ranks = 3 pieces of wood

          Maybe could have something like: 5 ranks = 1 piece, 10 ranks = 2 pieces, 15 ranks = 3 pieces, 20 ranks = 4 pieces etc

So that more characters could get 'something', even if they can't afford to invest a massive amount of points in the skill.

Fair warning, the bolts of acid and fire are broken, in that no'pinewood bolts' exist in the item lists. James has never had great problems with locating a supplyer, if he really needs one, and most he had found are amiable to finishing a Mossdale run to offset costs.

Most of the problem with the gems I think stems from the unreliability of collection. Some people mine high quality veins a ton and never get any thing of use. However, lumber, as with metals, if you harvest it you will get at least a certain minimum of goods per invested attempt.

I didn't abandon the idea, I just had no idea how it would work and feedback on that question has been like "None" so I figure there was a lack of interest.

My problem with current crafting system is the scripts are ALLLLLLL over the place.

Huh. I was unaware you were seeking feedback. Please let us know what sort of data you are looking for, and we should be able to compile it.

It may not have been intended, but I think the impression most of us got was "GBX is working on it, now stop asking about crafting."

I think the current system is perfectly fine if the staff made the materials necessary to craft more readily available. Don't get me wrong, some of my toons have gotten crazy rich because they decided to invest skill points in mining, woodcutting, gem cutting, etc. instead of other RP tools.

That said, the system has some issues as it is... but if resources were more readily available then I believe the population would learn how the system actually works and use it more.

If not, then Kit and I are more than willing to take your coin for doing it for you.

                    Cheers!

There are a few of us that are VERY well versed in the system and the general drop rates. I can even tell you what the original costs in terms of charging for fatigue were SUPPOSED to be (people would cry over what some people have charged -- the problem became a lack of certain users of skills which trickled down the system - hardly any lumberjacks and miners left a void in timbers and gems which increased prices all along...)

I also don't mind the current system, so long as the ingredients become a bit more commonplace. I think the minimum rank required to Mine/Chop rare materials should be decreased (drastically) to make them accessible to more players, with the yield amount being the thing that varies with skill level.

Gems I think should have a chance to drop very rarely (not Pearls or Kings tears but everything else).

Dye ingredients on the other hand...they provide zero statistical benefit, so I don't see a reason they shouldn't be easily purchasable in stores.

Aside from that, just fixes to the not-working recipes (like how bows can't have acid/electricity/sonic enchants) would be a super awesome bonus

I agree. When Angus started to sell gems, I researched the cost or going price for them... What I found, historically, was that gems were very affordable. But! that was also based on the loot table and the fact bosses dropped gems back in the day.

                          Cheers!

Personally I'd be over the moon if we could just make mundane crafting equipment v.easy to buy and remove the fatigue costs for crafting mundane armour and clothing. That way we'd allow people to invest money and time in creating lovely looking custom stuff while saving their weary fatigue for the really cool stuff.

People want to look good and reflect their character in their clothes. Our custom appearance crafting system is a really strong selling point, let's make it better!

A while back I did start looking up the many bug reports and glitches with an eye to spend a day crunching through it. Sadly I remembered I can't code for toffee and scripting makes as much sense time as ogham. Put pay to that idea.

Anyway, it might be worth stocking the ExiCorp store up with basic crafting and colouring supplies so our merchant faction can get mercantile.
