Was just wondering, are Wizards not meant to be able to use Darts?

I was trying to buy some from the shop and they are colored red.

Funny thing is, we seem to be able to use both the Light and Heavy crossbow....so I guess my question is, how the heck is a Dart more complicated to use than a crossbow?!!

It's kinda important as I'm trying to create an item in the toolset that can be thrown by anyone, but it's impossible as wizards cannot throw anything

It's not that you can't use it (though mechanically in NWN2 that's how it works). It's that you aren't trained to aim it well and damage someone. Crossbows are easier because they don't require as much skill - little strength is involved, and less aiming as well. At least that's how I'd read it.

Throwing darts and knives accurately is not easy. Pointing a crossbow and shooting is.

If you want a ranged weapon for everyone, go with grenades.

I tried to make it a grenade, but when I imported the item into singleplayer it was unequipable as a weapon, so how can I throw it? ><

I guess it would need some kind of special script like Acid flasks and Alch fire has?

Just want it to aim at one creature though, and use an attack roll.

Remember, crossbows were banned by the church because they were too easy to use and caused too many deaths!

Hmm, I don't know about this reasoning. I'm pretty sure if I picked up a dart I could hit someone with it as long as they're within 20m or so. Not in the head/heart etc but somewhere.

Crossbow on the other hand...eck, how do u even pull back the stringawindamagiggy?

But anyway, its just a game so of course there are some silly aspects. Its not the perfect unbeatable 2nd edition dnd after all

To clear up my reasoning a bit. Any idiot can use a crossbow (premise of argument). Hard to use bows knives and darts. Case study. 100 years war: superior English archers -- English lost war why? French crossbows on town castle walls -- therefore any idiot can use a crossbow

Took me six weeks to get good at throwing knives. Took me as long as it took me to draw the pulley to get good at using a crossbow.

I jest you not; have a go at throwing knives and hitting things with the pointy end. Its more difficult than it looks. (assuming darts are the same as knives for the purpose of proficiency)

It's easier to learn how to (re)load a crossbow and aim it than to learn how to properly aim and chuck throwers, I guess.

Also there's the added benefit that proper xbows are better at piercing armour, though that is not represented in-game, and how one would implement that is for another story. (Use touch AC?)
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?
