  • Researching a Spell

Hey, just wondering do the DM's have any system set up for researching spells? i.e. time, funds, % chance of success

If not, there is a nice system here from Complete Wizard's Handbook (seems very harsh though...spend 16 weeks and 9600gp to research one 5th level spell and u get 30% success chance!)

Unfortunately its 2e, don't know if anyone knows any 3e/4e system?

Yes, I realise my RP writing sucks. Just be thankful I keep it short

If you mean researching existing spells, then that is something that could be considered down the line sometime. Researching/Creating entirely new spells is unlikely to be something that will ever happen except in the most extreme (epic) plotlines.

Yeah, just hit up a DM in game; we can usually let you sort out an existing spell.

Sorry yeah I meant researching existing spells. New spells of course would be hard to impossible as I would have to convince some staff to literally make them for me :P

I've been trying to max out my Spellcraft/Know:Arcana which I'm assuming would play a role in spell research?

As an aside, there is nothing stopping me from researching "New" new spells and then using them in DM events right? Even though they don't and probably never will exist in-game.
