From an RP standpoint, it would depend on the orc's back story. Raised among orcs? Probably not venerating Talos. Stolen by Talassan druids and molded into a hateful piece of storm rage? Well, yeah.

R3 nailed it again! It is possible to make anything work, with some good RP and imagination.

In 4E there was a deliberate plan to cut down on the number of FR deities. I believe this is the main reason for the retcon-feel to some of the changes. I try to mentally picture it as a reboot rather than a wholesale god-slaughter.

Nothing made me as confused, angry, and depressed as when I read that Talos was Grummsh. I literally turned my computer off and walked away. Why TALOS? Take Garagos. He was the second God of War anyway..

Beyond my general dislike of the change based on the fact that I like Talos... He was rumored to be among the most powerful/dangerous of all the Gods. Yet he was really not a god, just an aspect... Ugh. I have never been able to play a Talassan after that.

          *end rant*

More on point.. I agree that with a proper back story the idea of an Orc worshiping Talos is not that far-fetched. He is a Deity that plays into the violent and destructive nature of Orcs. They are a brutal race, and respect physical prowess above most anything. They also fear and respect those who wield Divine powers. Talassans are known to often be given flashy and deadly powers from their destructive Patron. A clan could easily view the destructive nature of storms and grow to worship the power and destruction they wield. In turn visiting destruction upon others in the same fashion.

As I have read in some of the FR novels and other non D&D books... It is not always a conscious switch. Sometimes shifts in behavior, thought, or surroundings can prod a slow change. Eventually they would grow to worship something completely different then what they began with. Possibly without even knowing at first.

i always felt that orcs are the most beastial and war like of races and could fit the fury gods well. grey orcs are religious zelots, so once they get an idea in their heads they might make a great zelot.

Considering that Gods in the Dnd universe supposedly derive their power from worship, its not so bad that he's an aspect... a God's power depends on how often people worship/fear/think of them in general.

Creating an aspect to garner more followers actually makes a lot of sense. How else would an ugly mofo like Gruumsh broaden his net to lure Humans etc into his worship :P

It also makes me wonder if a God created an aspect, then that aspect ended up being worshipped more than the original God, would they usurp the originals power? Would they be a God with multiple personality disorder?

I picture it more like a party outfit, and then the god is going out to stir up some shit hes like ... Should I go as Bhaal or Tyr today...
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Except now Talos is ((basically))completely gone in 4ed.. That is why I was mad. His portfolios were absorbed and he is no more. The Deities of Fury all left to kiss Silvanus' boots and Auril is turning good.

So can I assume instead of freezing people to death her followers now give out free icecream?

She was originally a Fey Queen... She was corrupted by some nasty gem given to the Seelie Court. She attempted a hostile take over, was foiled, and then thrown out. She then began to garner the worship of Humans and later became a Fury under Talos. Now that Talos is known to be Grummsh, the Deities of Fury have fled their plane and are under Silvanus. Silvanus knew of this corruption and is slowly reversing its effect..

So all those Auril worshipers will soon be worshiping a fickle Fey Queen..

I always knew the talassian faith was too shaky not to be some sort of mummery... Ethos: 'Wreck Stuff. With Electricity.'
All the proper deities have a much better itinerary.

                            Aurilite ice cream:

Aurilite: Take this object, but beware! It carries a terrible curse!

                            Adventurer: Ooh, that's bad...

Aurilite: But it comes with a free frogurt!

                            Adventurer: That's good!

Aurilite: The frogurt is also cursed.

                            Adventurer: That's bad.

Aurilite: But you get your choice of toppings.

                            Adventurer: That's good.

Aurilite: The toppings contain potassium benzoate!

                            Adventurer: ...

                            Aurilite: That's bad.
I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!

                              Random thought:
Roll an elven storm lord who uses the power of the storm to rampage like an asshole and slaughter ALL the orcs.

Gruumsh won't know what to do.
