  • Crafter Query

I am curious so I figured I'd start a thread to pose some questions to all of you who play characters who use the current crafting system in any way.

Which crafting system(s) do you use?

What part of the crafting system(s) do you love?

What part of the crafting system(s) do you hate?
    Account Name: LuvHandles
Maneae StrongArm - Devilish Warrior Woman (Active: Finding her place after time in reflection)
Minael Cel'Anon - Elven Smith, Knight and Wizard (Inactive: seeking clues to lost elven artifacts)
Aria Duvaine - Wouldn't you like to know . . . (Inactive: Whereabouts unknown)
Ra'd Malik - Mulhorandi Warrior (Inactive: Off on a mission for the BH)
Khyron Brinsbane - Fury of Auril (Inactive: Working with Cwn Annwn)
Chazre Kenner - All around good guy with a penchant for revelry and chasing the ladies. (Deleted: Team Good, returned to Cormyr)

I use the armor and weapon crafting systems.

I love that most folks can careless about the crafting system, which enables those of us that do invest time learning it's sweet spot to make serious cash.

I hate that I have to find every component and or subcomponent, then seek out someone who can convert it into a craftable item.

The one question missing is... what would I like to see? I would like to see all of the crafting items available in each faction store minus gems. This way, most people can purchase what they want and then have some one craft it without spending countless days searching for a Duergar's Heart.

    Cheers!

      1) Alchemy, Arms/armour, wondrous, wands, mining, fishing

      2) I am probably one of the few that like the way it's laid out requiring various reagents

      3) The fact that said reagents are very rare for some of the more basic things. The biggest thing I think that is a problem is the steep learning curve.
Bree - Bookkeeper and diplomat of Exigo.

Becky Dragonhin - Sword of the Loyal Fury, Knight of the Triad... the only Good hin in Sundren???
      Cybil Gelley (Retired)
Perry Turnipfodder - aspiring talent, happy chronicler.

        1. arms & armor, alchemy, wondrous items, imbuements, wands

        2. The fact that there arent a whole pile of us doing it. As Manut4ever said, its a good way to make money.

        3. the fact that some of the recipes are broken and you have to get a DM involved to fix it after you have spent several in game hours looking for the components and then attempting to craft it only to find out something is wrong.

          1) Alchemy, Craft Weapons and Armour

          2) Hmm..this is a tough one! Probably the fact that high end items (like +4 armour) are incredibly hard to craft.

          3) General: Low end items are also incredibly hard to craft. Your main limit is gems, essences aren't much of a problem. Gems are only available from miners, who charge maybe 5-100,000gp depending on gem, meaning its impossible to make a business out of enchanting without charging ridiculous prices (I would have to charge 10-11K for a normal +2 longsword, and thats just to break even)

Alchemy: The dye components being so rare is a bit silly. They should be sold by Vani Thenner or whatever her name is. Also, the alchemical items are so weak they aren't even worth going to the trouble of crafting anyway, but I won't go into that...

Weapons/Armour: So, when I took the feat I didn't realise that Mages only get 1/3 of its actual benefit. Apparently whilst we can only craft weapons, Clerics can craft weapons, shields and armour. Maybe we should have a separate feat called Craft Weapons Only for wizards.

            1) Alchemy, armor and weapons creation, armor and weapons enchantment, wonderous, traps

            2) I like the variety in regards to reagents, and the resulting dynamic due to the learning curve. Much like the others stated, there is basically a caste of crafter players based on merit and practice.

            3) What I dislike the most is the semi-arbitrary limitations on some recepies: for example, the only elemental enchantment that can be added to a bow is fire. Another facet is that some reagents are impossible to obtain (belladonna, reptile fang), although that may have changed with loot-tables.

            4) building on Manu's 4th question, I'ld be pleased to see more models accessable from the crafting GUI. Not that stuff like RPTOM-models should be up there, but if it's common enough for an NPC to mass produce it, then it would be nice for a PC to be able to replicate.

            Cheers,
            Kit

Craft Magic Arms and Armor is stull fully useful to a wizard, but it requires knowledge of how to use an assistant.

The original concept of fatigue and DC was that (Fatigue +DC) * 25 == the amount you charged; and the value of the gems was supposed to be about the same; not even before the crafting system was a ruby worth anything more than about 12K... of course, low level bosses (up to the ogre) dropped gems every time they died so they were a dime a dozen
