I have read that when the update occurs that there will not be a vault wipe and that everyones characters will remain intact. Does this include the things we have in chests in rented rooms? And will the rooms remain rented to those who have them? What can we expect?

Nothing of what you have mentioned will be affected, save for Four Lanterns is relocated.
