  • RPoTM May 2012

    Hi guys n pretend gals,

It's that time of the month again so smarten up and pay attention.

For those who haven't done this before: To play an ECL character, you must submit a bio of 1500 words to me, there is an additional final limit of 10,000 characters. This is important; 1500 words, 10,000 characters, whichever is the lesser. Explore your creative side, write something that really sounds like a fun character to play, and the community will vote on it! Past entries that have been made will be allowed, so bring your best ideas to the table.

For Role Player of the Month, please submit your votes (You're allowed two) to me via PM by June 5th. That crazy hin really impress you with his roleplay? Have you met a paladin that dedicates himself on a daily basis to fighting evil (not when it's convenient)? Vote for them to get cool swag!

Remember, submit your bio entries to me by June 5th, and we'll vote until June 10th on them. Role player of the Month votes come in on June 5th. Get voting!

1500 words. 10,000 characters whichever is lesser. If it goes over those I'll simply remove paragraphs until it fits.

    Any questions, pm me.

After hearing "Man, I'd vote for so-and-so, but s/he's already won in the past!" and pointing out that previous winners are eligible as long as a RL year has passed since the win, I figured I'd bring this to light in case there are others who erroneously think the same way.

In short, ANY CHARACTER by any player (excluding current DMs) is eligible to win this month EXCEPT the following characters by the following players:

    Kavos Tal'Ressin (Seheren)
    Ruby Heartstone (pkisawesome)
    Tarkanik Tannen (Brendig)
    Draknar "Sharkbane" Krallach (Xalbrus)
    Petyr Highsun (BeholderEBeautyye)
Lasvi Norreitryn (Syunakama) & Ryland Padant (Standur Grownd)
    Maia Nanethiel (Zoberraz)

    Everyone else is fair game!

Almost the end of the month!

FoogooFish is spot on with her mentioning of who can and can't be voted for, it's a small pool of people who aren't eligible for rpotm.

I've had some great bios so far but I know there are more of you out there with some great ideas lurking up your sleeves! So get that concept down in text and get it over to me! Don't forget you can reenter previous bios that didn't win, either tweaked or untweaked.

There's just under a week till the deadline, so crack on with roleplayer votes and bio entries!

Spread the love, but not on the curtains.

*headscratch* Isn't kind of odd that runner-ups can win being runner-up over and over, while those that came in first place can't - or can't end up in runner up positions even if they can't receive first place?

With the permission to create a barred-race character slated into the bio contest, being first place RPOTM and runner up seems to yield very similar rewards aside from the custom-appearance item. Especially once you reach level 20, the juicy amount of experience you can get via this makes it feel more advantageous to get runner up rather than first place.

I mean, the recognition's great, and it's not like you can purposefully end up runner up since no one can really intentionally tweak their votes that way... but the setup is a little strange, isn't it?

Actually, I do agree with Zoberraz here. Looking over the RPotM rewards, there really is no difference between winning and getting second place, other then you can get second place multiple times, and winning means you stop right there. So, in essence, it's actually far better to get runner up, especially if your main is already 20. I don't really have any suggestions to fix that though, just an observation. Also, a vote for Iskaroth Blackruin is a vote for freedom.

You're correct, the old limit on a yearly win was more to do with the nature of the rewards (winning meant a race unlock) and keeping things unique.

I'll take a look at the various rpotm rewards over the next month and see about changing things around and maybe introducing new things into the mix.

For this month however we'll carry on as normal and I'll open a discussion thread later in the month when I've got things and time to discuss.

                OK!

I'm finally set up in my new accommodation (Sans gaming/work PC, but hey ho) That means it must be the 5th and that means its the last day for Bio entries and RPoTM votes!

You have until 23:59 Zulu Today (5th June) to get them into me! Get on it.

Bios and results will go up at some point (most likely the evening) of the 6th for congratulations and bio voting.

                  Kapow!

                  Votes are in.

A joint first place this month! Both superb roleplayers who've made the effort to get involved and get your RP on and both collecting an equally bulging bag of votes.

                  Kitsunetsume Gyletongue (Kitsunetsume)
                  Darius Blackwell (YourMoveHolyman)

You two make yourselves known to a DM in game to claim your joint 1st place rewards.

Next month there'll be a few changes to our current RPoTM system that should hopefully make it a little smoother all round and present new and interesting options to players. More details mid month.

In the mean time head over to THIS GREAT THREAD HERE and read through the three great bio enteries we had this month.

Once you've read them all through simply send me a PM stating which one you'd like to see being played in game by 23:59 Z on the 10th of June!

Winners will be announced on the 11th.

Holy crap, someone should go find that guy and let him know >.>

Thanks everyone, and sorry for my recent absence, should have posted already but in short - its a busy time of the year for me at work, people start travelling for summer vacations, the kids get out of school, and its national traffic safety month all rolled into the same time period. Thanks though, and I hope everyone enjoyed the event at the Viridale, thanks again to Polt for running that for all of us.

And congrats Kit! However, you know I must now find you, and eat your heart >=).

Whoot! Thanks peeps! You guys are all awesome too.

And Glaes, you should know that eating my heart won't be good for you: it's either black from evilness or the 98% imported dark chocolate that it's made of. Tastey though.
