  • The nature of divine scrolls and symbols

I had an idea of rping a fallen paladin. But according to the rules, they are just supposed to be regular fighters should they fall. This brought up a question, in a rp standpoint, would they still be able to use scrolls? I think they would still have the knowledge and training to read and invoke the power inside the scroll. But i wanted to make sure.
Also i once played a game called eye of the beholder. Clerics and paladins needed holy symbols to cast spells, same way as mages needed spellbooks to cast spells. I was wondering if this was still true, as it could be useful information rp wise.

Since divine casting is disabled, unless they have UMD I would say that they would be unable to use scrolls.

And yes, clerics and paladins use holy symbols to invoke their gods power.

That depends on the spell. Some have a holy symbol as a component, some don't.
