  • My bad

Sorry about the uber giants last night ^_^ Totally my bad, a party of 10 whilst I started out with 4, cutting simply through everything I spawned had me kind of wickedly annoyed. Nothing to do you with you

I do hope they give you a good reminder of how die-able your characters are

I think if everyone attacked them at once it would have worked out. People were just scattered and sort of taken by surprise All good fun tho

I know I'm not having Maia rush lone large gnolls that look like a shaman with impressive names over their heads!

As for the giants... Maia had learned from her earlier lesson and just hid in a bush went she saw Garion and Vashano get squashed. ^_^

Upside: frost giants actually give level 11 characters some xp. Yay!
Downside: they're fucking hard to kill.

that was funny! Everyone was too busy argueing about what to do with Ohgmek and the giants smashed those who went to go home! Quest was fun clutch, dunno about rewards though.

If that's the case, I don't think you need to apologize. Groups ballooning like that is usually a case of bad player etiquette. If you didn't invite the extra players into the group, then I'd say you were perfectly in line in laying some smack down.

Ha, it was fun. We all got pwned, and i dont mind getting pwned. And btw, the party became bigger because everyone who met each other knew each other.. and was sort of asked for aid. SO yah.. The extra players are not bad players. >>

When a DM's running an event, it's generally good practice to ask the DM if adding to the party size is okay. The DM's goal isn't to obliterate the party; it's to create a scaled, challenging quest/event for the PCs. When players add to the party size at their own discretion (for instance, Clutch's group of 4 ballooning to 10), the DM has a much harder time of creating challenging encounters for PC's. As evidenced, the PC's often either steamroll the opposition or get steamrolled themselves.

Furthermore, smaller groups allow for more personal interaction between the DM and PCs and better opportunities for roleplay. It's much easier for 4-6 characters to surface and roleplay in a thorough, sincere matter than it is for 10, not to mention how convoluted text gets when 10 PC's are all voicing their emotes and opinions.

SO...I never said the additional players were bad players. I said it seemed like there was a general quest/event etiquette lacking.

*Edit: I see how you would read my post as saying "bad players." The "bad" is an ambiguous modifier meant to apply to "etiquette" and not "player." "Poor player etiquette" would have been more evident.

uhm, well, Scince i've played, most dms dont mind if anyone comes in. They're here to make it fun for players, and they let everyone come in. *Shrug.* People like to acutally be involved into some rp with a dm, especially when you can't find rp elsewhere.

When I showed up there was a comment on it, so I offered to leave. They asked me to stay.

I was asked if i wanted to join them, so yah..

Edit; Oh yah, i also think i remember seeing a dm say don't care what other players say about too many people in a dm event, they don't decide if you leave or stay. Its not fun when you kick somone out because theres too many people that you dont get enough xp or something.

It's not about XP, it's about the manageability of the group. I've been on both sides of the client, and as a player and a DM, events/quests that involved a controlled amount of PC's (ideally 6) were more engaging and fun as every PC was able to adequately represent him/herself and the DM was able to effectively scale challenges and make npc's and monsters respond to every single character, something you can't accomplish with larger groups.

Having played in excessively large quests before, I can recall basically walking along with a mob of pc's, slaughtering everything in sight, and the "fun" was the rp xp award everyone got at the end of it all. Or, the converse, the DM got frustrated with the inability to challenge the PC's and spawned a mob too powerful for the PCs to handle, and they wiped. Obviously, players would have more of an issue with getting "pwnd" if death had a real consequence.

OH dont worry, I never send anyone away. It's not the players fault the count went up to 10, safety in numbers anyway and it made perfect sense, no blame at all on the players part. Besides that Viridale border is a area where players clutch up pretty quickly.

.. but consequently it kind of took the challenge away though, which was a shame and got me a tad annoyed for a teeny weeny bit moment ^_^

We had quite a bit of rp, with that group. The numbers really didn't make too much of an impact, and we didn't really run through mobs slaughtering things.
