I've been growing as a DM, just as alot of you are likely growing as players. It's fun to watch you all progress
But I have an issue I'd like to bring up, and I call it "Direction".
What is Direction? It's the move move move of a story. It's the plotline. It's the Driving force behind what your character does. It's also where people tend to fall on their noses.
What am I talking about?
Alot of characters are made with an indifferent approach to what they will do in the world. In the end they find that they have, well, nothing to do. Is this because there's really nothing to do?
Alot of you may be new to roleplaying servers and what is allowed and what isn't allowed and might be slightly intimidated by the DM squad. I'm basically posting this to try to help you lose this intimidation.
DM's are there to assist. I don't mean just "Help, I am bugged, can you fix this?" but assist with the goals of your characters. This is one of the major reasons why we put DM's in charge of the facets of Sundren. The burden of direction lies on DM's and players, but mostly on players.
"What did you just say GodBeast?!?!"
I said the burden of direction lies mostly on you guys.
What I would like to see is characters taking all the various things we're putting into Sundren and coming up with what they would like to accomplish, and saying to us "Help me accomplish this." This is our primary goal as DMs. We give plots to help define characters and the world more, but the lasting rewards of an RP server is being the one to decide where your character goes.
I didn't make your character so don't make me decide what your character wants to do with himself.
I want you to decide and come to me saying "Help me with this plan I invented." The world is setup for this. We bring in conflicts in the world, facets, and you run with them
Sundren is still being built and evolving, and we are all evolving with it, so opportunities will present themselves over time. However, what opportunities bring for you is up to you. Take the world and go crazy with it, that's what we're here for.
