So I donated 2,500 gold to Exigo because there was no option to donate 5k. I got 71 reputation for the donation. I then donated 2,500 more and it took my gold but gave me no reputation saying that my recent generosity had already been noted. There was no warning that I would not receive reputation with the faction before I dropped the cash, so I basically lost 2500 stags (sigh). How often can donations be made?

It's supposedly something like 24 hours, but I always give it 2-3 days at the very least because my girlfriend said she timed 24 hours and still got nothing for the day-later donation.Active

It is my understanding that only one donation will go through every 72 hours, or 3 server-resets. If the server isn't reset in a couple days, I don't think any donation other than the first will process.
Cheers,

It is not either OR it is 72 Hours and 3 Server Resets. I just lost 75k trying to donate after 3 Server Resets and it has been about 70 hours since I last Donated. You should change it so you CANT donate again. The DMs wont care if you lost your money, you're pretty much screwed. You aren't allowed to get your money back because it would be like "Doing you a favor" . No a favor would be giving me the money to cover the donation in whole without losing the 75k in the first place."Service to a cause greater than yourself is the utmost honor you can achieve."

We probably will completely disable rep increase by donating, it's on a todo list... basically DMs should be filling the gap right now for rep increase.
I had increased the amount of money required to get rep by quite a bit because people shot to the top rank of a faction way too fast. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Disable it? I like the donation rep thing. What will those of us do who rarely get DM interaction do to get rep if not?Landristin Lyonstongue: Ancient, Child of Colibrus. This is just a suggestion and may have been given consideration and shot down but since I do believe in certain factions that giving gold should merit an increase faction rep I will go ahead and make the suggestion. In certain organizations it is feasible to buy favor so perhaps setting up a time to RP a generous donation with a DM would be better than having a donation box. I will make no suggestions as to the amount of rep per gold since that is up to the powers that be but RP'ing a one-time event for a PC would not seem out of order.
In lieu of that perhaps putting a cap on donations like the goblin bounty would be another method of limiting faction rep through donations.Ashard Velmont - Gentleman scoundrel

The latter half of this shouldnt be too hard to set up should it?Originally posted by Standur View PostThis is just a suggestion and may have been given consideration and shot down but since I do believe in certain factions that giving gold should merit an increase faction rep I will go ahead and make the suggestion. I understand, trust me... I know you guys want/need rep especially because of faction stores, and taking away the donating cripples methods of increasing rep (other than flags, and what few quests there are)... Which is part of the reason why I never removed it completely to begin with.
I hope that if players are finding events sorely lacking at all for their faction, that I encourage you to seek out DMs on the forums, and ask politely for some guidance. You'd be amazed at the responses you'd get. Ingame it can be different though, sometimes they are busy or working with other players.
Sometimes, DMs themselves are low on creative energy, and a player with motivation can certainly help push things in a direction to get them started. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

The problem isn't donating to factions, but the automation of it combined with the worthlessness of gold.
It's possible for people to get into the upper levels of a faction without ever doing anything for that faction.
Without the automation of donations it should be possible to rejig the rep/rank amounts to make levelling with your faction a more rewarding experience with rep rewards from group events, rp posts and DM interaction (which can include buying a commission). It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

The only problem I have with the idea that DM events should be replacing the rep gained from donations is the fact that for 2 months, once every week, last year, Presea and Faucon and a small band of Triad Initiates went out and did quests for the faction. For most of the events we didn't get any extra rep, occasionally only one or two people got rep, and the few times we did get rep it was not a significant enough amount compared to getting flags to have the impact reflecting faction-specific DM events. Now, there was a couple of times that DM's weren't available and Dain would send us to do something, but as a player he could only vouch for a single member of the group as well.
Granted, this was quite some time ago, so the DM's may have better guidance for handling these kinds of situations then they did at that time.
Additional: I also just thought to add, I would not mind forgoing XP in favor of a significant amount of rep from a faction-specific event. Experience points are a lot easier to come by, especially for those of us that have never used the donation system for Reputation gain.Presea De'Ombre - Fist of the Broken
Darcy Lothara - Lost Soul
Miyu Suhayl - Defender of Beauty
Bryna Ulric - Dark Priestess

Perhaps just make it so you get some just for leveling. I mean whats more lame than a level 20 who is still the lowest possible rank in his faction.Originally posted by Doubtful View PostThe problem isn't donating to factions, but the automation of it combined with the worthlessness of gold.

That is too easy for certain factions. Though most DM events are short and simple and have no way to impact most factions. Example; Congrats you just fought off a Demon horde with all these other people go you here is 250 Rep with Sundren. Shouldn't a Portion of that rep go to any faction you belong to?Originally posted by Catastrophe View PostIf you are in an event, and feel you did something that is deserving of faction rep, don't feel bad about asking us DM's for it.
