How to roleplay a Favored Soul?

That's part and parcel of it though isn't it. How long does it take it to figure out what it is? Will it survive and do so? Or fail and die like so many others that didn't deserve the favour* in the first place. What will it do when it discovers? Does it rebel impotently? Take its own life pathetically in protest?
You need to think of it as a game, not a matter of divinity taken seriously in a matter of life or death at all times. A favoured soul is ultimately mortal, favouring someone may not necessarily mean he's bound for good fortune by any means. The gods need care nothing for one single mortal in the grand scheme of things. Who was Job to God, really? Who would a favoured soul of Bane be to him? Just another mortal, to do with as he pleases, inflict strife upon and lord over as he pleases. The favour of a dark god, I think, would be anything but a boon to most.
I mean really, what else is there to do as a god but thrust mortals into ruthless social experiments with little or no actual oversight in place to stop you? *Looks at the DM's suspiciously a moment.* all joking aside, all I'm saying is, the realms aren't nearly as black and white as people like to make them seem, the baldur's gate games did a fantastic job of conveying that and that approach ought be used more often. Favoured souls can actually fit that niche rather uniquely as well - a favoured soul need not always play the role of a beneficiary of power, he could just as easily and compellingly be portrayed as a slave to it, or simply cursed by it.
Because in the end, to the gods, it very often is just a game - and the mortals as nice as some gods may be about the fact - are all so often just pieces there to be toyed with.

That's basically how I would describe the Bhaalspawn character from BG, speaking of that series. I wouldn't necessarily call the character a Favored Soul, but this is a really good descriptor of what the alternatives could be besides just being a beneficiary like Twisted said.Originally posted by Twisted-Indoctrine View Posta favoured soul need not always play the role of a beneficiary of power, he could just as easily and compellingly be portrayed as a slave to it, or simply cursed by it.
