  • Enchanting Items

I know there are those out there that are experts at enchanting items and I am a novice. Therefore, I am asking for help.

I am trying to enchant gloves and have the feat, all the items required, and the gold. However, when I try to use the magician's bench at the temple of Ogma, nothing happens. I right click on the recipe, then click on the bench, nothing. I right click on the recipe and then click on me, nothing happens.

Am I doing something wrong or is the magician's bench at the temple of Ogma broken? If it is broken, is there another magician's bench that works, besides the Thayan? I am not a thayan and cannot access that bench.

    Any help is appreciated.

If it's a recipe that enchants an existing item, you need to Use the recipe on the item to be enchanted.

If the recipe creates a new item from ingredients, check that the recipe does not require a Forge, as well as a magician's bench. If so, you could in theory ask a DM (very politely) to try spawning a forge a bit closer to the magician's bench so that the requirements for the script may be met. I've never actually tried that, but it may work. Otherwise you need to be a member of a certain faction that has a forge and magician's workbench in close proximity.

Another option is to check if there is an alternative way of getting the effect you are seeking. There are occasionally alternatives, and no faction gets access to every recipe. I am not aware of any bugged recipes.

If none of the above is true, then I am not sure what is wrong. Please state any error messages you are receiving.

Alright, I got what I was doing wrong, I did not click on the ingame item. It worked this time; however, it said I had no ranks to do it. It said I needed a rank of 5, but 0 ranking. What is the ranking based on? Is it level? I am currently 7th level, have the feat for making magical arms and armor, but not sure what the ranking is based on.

The recipe says it is a DC of 15.

      Thanks!

Rank would indicate a skill, my guess is either the craft armour skill, or as it's gloves, the tailoring/ leatherwork skills.

Without having the full text of the description it's hard to say.

For enchanting, you get (Caster Level of spell cast) + 1d10 to try and beat the DC.

In your case, a minimum of Caster Level 5 to have the barest minimum chance of making it work, Caster Level 14 to get it everytime.

Remember the Caster Level is the Caster Level of that one spell you cast. This will be the number of levels you have in that one class, if you are casting the spell yourself, or the intrinsic caster level of the item property, if casting from an item.

I am not sure where the "0 ranking" comes from. Is it referring to the "Crafting Assistant" at all (Crafting Assistant does not currently work). Posting a SS may help.

*Edit* Doubtful is probably right. I suggest double checking the recipe requirements, as many have multiple requirements that may include gold/spell(s)/feat/race/nearby crafting station(s)/skills. There are some recipes that are very much niche recipes, but which will allow a PC who is the only one who meets the requirements a monopoly on creating that item. That is one of the cool things I like most about the current crafting mechanics, but not everyone likes that degree of complexity.

As far as ranks go. In 3e it was the amount of skill points used in your class skills (two points per rank for cross class)... Then you would add your ability modifier to the roll, but the ability mod did not count for ranks.

In NWN2 I noticed that it doesn't differentiate between the rank and the ability mod, giving it a flat total. So to find out what rank you have in the game, just subtract your ability mod from your skill total.

I am trying to add 1d4 fire damage to the exorcist palm gloves. I have craft weapons, but not tailoring or craft weapons skills. It doesn't say anything in the recipe that I need any particular skill, it merely states the feat, magical arms and armor.

I guess next level I will try to put points into other skills and see if that works......this is very intricate and frustrating, but trying to get the hang of it.

On the recipe, it says it should also require a spell. For adding fire damage, I believe the spell that is required is orb of fire. And with what you put, I believe it needs a caster level of 15.

The recipe states a DC of 15. Orb of fire, which I have, is a level 4 spell which I can cast at 7th level. Not sure....crafting is tricky.
