That sucks. Is there word of the system being worked on, or is so low on the list of priorities that it'll take ages to fix?

When did the grappling system go so wonky? I remember it working well enough before.

I believe it is very far down the list of priorities.

      Steer clear.

Damnit. So much for judo dwarf. At least I received some forewarning before finding out the hard way. Thanks!

Make sherlock holmes! Rogue/swashbuckler with as many skill focuses as you can burn. Perhaps improved unarmed strike for flavour... and wear a flat cap!

Fun as it sounds, past level 10 you'd not be able to kill anything that grants XP. Heck, with such a gimped up build, getting even there would be trouble without some serious gear. And finding a group is hard. And you'd be trounced by absolutely anyone of comparable level in PvP if you were ever interested in having a conflicting opinion about something.

At the moment, viable things are pure sneak rogue/shadowdancer to use the silly power and exploitability of HiPS (low levels are still horrible), Cleric/FS for being able to solo PvE areas and their general power, and Wizard/Sorc. Hopefully this will change after The Update (soon) and we'll able to have more varied characters capable of soloing.

I'm going to orc it up again, only more hardcore-er this time. Although, Legacy: Dark Age of Britain looks a lot like what I'm looking for (low level content, permadeath, low magic environment).

Less than two weeks until I can play again!

Sorry I was talking about rp flavour. I have no idea about what's currently viable as a 'soloing' build. Hell my main is an invisible blade whose bleed damage doesnt even go past DR.. may as well have stuck to pure rogue and had a chance at dealing past their resistances with sheer damage count!
That and feint has all the numbers stacked against it. You have to roll past their base attack + their spot + D20 on top. Against a ranger your pretty much screwed!

Yeah, the life of a non-hipsing rogue is a hard one.

I find that playing a rogue/sneaker requires a different attitude to PvP.

As in, do it when your opponent is least expecting it. But yeah, unsheathing your daggers and watching an enemy go ethereal and start buffing for half an hour isn't what I'd call a good time in any situation.

It is possible to solo a rogue, but it's probably one of the more difficult experiences I've ever had on the server. You have to be very selective on where you level, and how you do it.

Hopefully this will change after The Update (soon) and we'll able to have more varied characters capable of soloing.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's really the opposite of what the server is trying to achieve.

As for the OP (or what would be some fun ideas for an orc PC):

Monk orc? Make him be able to pound his enemies into the ground with his massive fists?

Bard/Swash/Rogue (human) A skill type PC that takes advantage of swash's addition of INT to combat rolls, and has inspiring auras to really make your skill checks fly high?

Dwarven defender and monk might be an interesting combo as well. Dunno how that'd work out, though.
                    Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

                    [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.

Gimping your character by taking Unarmed Strike and Skill Focus: Use Rope dosen't make you a better RPer.

And much as I'm a massive proponent of group RPing dungeon crawls and group RP in general, there's a lot of time on the server where there is nobody about, and the people that are around are vastly different level and interested in soloing in their own level-appropriate grinding area above RP.

Being able to solo gives you something to do on the server during these times. Being a rogue/swash with nothing but skill focuses will make you dead if you try, and therefore unable to RP due to being dead.

Peridan's builds are decent ideas, mind. Grey Orc Monks are practically Flash with how fast they end up running. Take dash and find a source of Haste and you'll be able to run up to a wizards face and punch him whilst he's still casting from the time you got into range.

Its a fair point. They get the wisdom for the AC side and get really heavy unarmeded attacks which leave little room for reprisal! the favoured class being cleric just adds cream cheese topping to the cake; Sacred fist anyone?

Forget the sacred fist, think assassin! Monk/Assassin orc would be....well, unique. And badass.

More in keeping with the racial choice to be sure!

DM: "So for your race you chose brutish killer, and for your class you chose brutish killer?"

                            Player1: "That is correct!"

                              Monk isn't really 'brutish'.

I saw a female orc monk one time, going for the crazy movespeed, and canonically it has a lot of backing, since female orcs are seen as massively lower in orc society, though also tend to be more controlled. The God of homestead, family, and women in the orc lot isn't as mad as all the others, and if I'm not mistaken I think there's something approaching a monastic group of then.
