  • Searchable always off

Lately, I've noticed when I hop on the server, there will be eight to eleven people on the server. I think to myself "Alright, I'll see where there's some people and go RP with them." When I get on, and click the "find players" button, I see one person is in AFK, and one person is in the legion camp, and the other ten are off searchable.

Now, I understand the searchable button can feel a bit...metagamey. It's the button that magically lets people go places they might not normally go to, so they can RP with whoever they find there. And many people who play evil characters tend to keep searchable off so that the good guys can't see where they probably are to go beat them up.

That being said, I've had some grumble to me about the fact it's too difficult to RP on the server currently, because it's hard to find anyone to RP with. Meanwhile, the same person has their searchable off to avoid being found.

Basically, it's an RP server guys. Sure, there's plenty of grinding and pvp to be had, but it's supposed to be RP first. I feel searchable should only be turned off when a DM asks you to for an event. Otherwise, lets not make it so hard for each other to find one another. We all like to RP, it shouldn't be such a hassle for us to find each other.

That's just my opinion though. I welcome other opinions as well on this subject. I'd say to keep it civil, but then someone will just post that I'm being rude or stupid because they didn't actually read when I said to keep it civil. So, go wild.

    Cynical you are...

I dont like the search for others function at all, but I understand its usefulness

However every one of its uses is metagamy as hell...

Find Ppl to RP with...(I have no problem with this since alot of RP is set up OOC anyway)

    Find Ppl to PvP...

Avoid Ppl who will kill your char...

Random encounters are more fun IMO than pre-setup RP, you have to think on your feet then.

This has been brought up at least 3 times since I have played on this server...I dont think anyone will change

I'll generally be searchable unless asked to have it turned off, or am involved in something that would be ruined by people walking into somewhere they typically would not know to go without the search tool.

I do appreciate your thoughts, I really do - and I feel everything should be discussed.

However, this particular topic has been brought up many times (use Search), and to be honest, we always conclude the same: having the searchable-off button has positives, and negatives. We encourage people to be searchable, but we don't want to take the option away from them not to be.

If you see people being unsearchable, I'd recommend a tell. Sure, it's a bit of a pain and can feel intrusive, but striking up an OOC dialogue can be very good as well. Get to know eachother a bit.

Those are my 2 cents. I know it's not the most world-shattering idea or a solution to the problem, but really: use tells. Nobody will bite your head off.

I tend to turn Searchable off when I am doing something I dont want others to know about or when Kyle Rendell logs on ... LOL ^_^

Meh...I never turn it off unless told to by a DM in an event. Not much point in having it if most of the server has it off.
