How do you feel about Raise Dead on Sundren?

Personally, when I bring someone back with bloodstones and a scroll, I don't treat it like I've restored them to life and returned a soul to a body; that trivializes death, and let's face it, where else in the Realms do people play musical chairs with their souls like we do on Sundren?

Instead, I treat it like I've found someone clinging to a shred of mortality, and those bloodstones and raise dead spell are a masterful dose of luck, healing, and timeliness that rejuvenate whomever was dangling from that treacherous precipice o' death. In fact, I typically drag the person in question back to my temple and play it up like our league of healers did the job, not me.

I don't like when people say, "Oh, yeah, I've died plenty of times. No big deal." Yeah, this is a game, but I just can't stomach the idea of dying being a repetitive part of life.

    Thoughts?

I gotta say I have to agree with you on this on Dain. I would like to see death as a character clinging on to an inch of his life. But it's difficult sometimes when other characters don't rp along. And how does someone cling to life when they are imploded by a spell?

That's how I usually play it out as well. Those of you that had companions fall under my watch would remember your buddys 'corpse' twitching and giving faint hints to mortal wounds. It at least lets those with healing ranks, and Mcguyver-like imagination a chance to step up and help their companions.

That statement implies you RP in other situations.

I've always done it that way, bud. Just seems more fitting. I'd go so far as to say that's how I RP it even when I am forced to respawn and lose gold, xp, and possibly an item. I think of it as I got the crap beat outta me, robbed, and left for dead. Then some unknown do-gooder found me all bloody, cleaned me up, and drug my busted butt to teh temple to recover.

Much easier than saying "oh, yeah...was dead a while...but I got better" :P

Thats why I always RP bottom end of the neutral scale or towards evil. No-one bothers to raise me so I just play it as vengeful left for dead - Red dead redemption style

I RP it like I do in real life. I die all the time, god loves me, and I come back to haunt you no matter what. I come back and rub it in your face, thats the 75th time I've died this year and here I am. Who really dies anyway? Pshh..

I've deleted the following posts because they were a result of a misunderstanding over a joke relating to soccer, or as most of the world knows it as 'football'.

Obviously, they've never watched real sports.

Please continue discussing the OP. Thank you, and I apologize for the confusion.

So I usually RP being near death or almost dead, because IMO, not fact, I beleive it's kind of anti-climactic to have infinite extra lives, and death is trivialized.

Depends largely on the situation, there are situations where I feel my characters having died then get raised is exactly what happened, as there's no escaping it. Otherwise I tend to be of the opinion that my character is knocked out and later just brought back around for 2500 gold.

Man, this is a game, play it like a game. Sure, this is an RP server, but sometimes, when you are grinding, you die because you die. Your buddies rez you, then you Rp a bit, "wow, what happened, I died, ok, lets do it again."

Other times, RP wise or DM events, you RP the death. I don't see what the big deal is, you guys sometimes take this stuff way to seriously, like this is your life or something.

As to Manu and roguethree, well, I can testify that Roguethree has no balls (what movie is that from?)

I treat death differently depending on the situation. I believe it's important to remember that death is not an instantaneous event, but rather a process. A person in real life who "dies" can be resuscitated via a defibrillator. Some people have been "raised" in this way several times. Does this trivialize their death? No. Were they always alive? Not necessarily. There is a difference between "clinically dead" and "brain dead". Brain death tends to be permanent, while clinically dead can be reversed by stimulating the circulatory system.

So who's to say Raise Dead doesn't operate the same way? A healing spell that specifically targets the mortal injury, coupled with a small electric jolt to restore the heart to beating. Of course this doesn't exactly correspond to real life, as it may take a day or more of foot travel to drag a body back to a temple. At that point, the body is quite dead, and our real-world medical technology cannot save them. However, this is a game, and magic exists in this world, so that opens the door for quite a few liberties.
